Opportunity for Imus competition??

What do you think will be the reaction of the Imus competition, now that he's gone. Will the Nassau foes go hard after the advertising dollar? Or will they take a passive role and wait to see what fills the I-void?

Who will get cut-throat and who will be business as usual?

First of all, Nassau will most likely impose FREE BEER AND HOT WINGS on the upper valley.

They have that show at a number of their other stations.THE HAWKs in New hampshire carry it.

Very high school-sh...like Imus...but tghese idiots SOUND luike they are still in high school.

Again, nothing terribly creative.

The question is...what will the Imus local sponsors do? Are they stiol going to shell out for some other show, or music?

AND there is noone on the horizon that would meet the "new" standards of CBS/Westwood one and the Rainbow Boys (Jesse and Rev Al). Who wants to take the edge and push it now?

Who? Mancow. CBS is replacing Imus with the other sports guys from WFAN.

Hmm..better than Mike Barnicle I would guess.

Article in today's "Rutland Herald" quoting the station manager at 101 The Fox, will be playing music, with news and weather for now with the current young sounding morning board-op that was providing all the local news and info during Imus. While this is only a temporary move, those of us who do like talk in the morning will probably head towards Vermont Public Radio, or WSYB's Brian and Jack Show in the metropolis of Rutland. Probably good opportunities to reach out to the Imus audience. Maybe WSYB could incorporate Tim Philbin more in the morning to add some political punch to the show.

I will be checking out WFAN's stream to see how Mike and the Mad Dog will sound in the morning.. Boston radio will no doubt be interesting from the Imus fallout.

Monday morning, aside from the "Storm of the Century" will be very interesting in radio all around. I wonder if any Imus T-shirts will increase in value on eBay ?? ;)

I've only heard Free Beer & Hotwings a couple times...they sound like a pretty generic rock station morning show. I really don't see them having much appeal to Imus' audience which I'd guess is a good 15-20 yrs older.

Isn 't Mancow just another Stern wannabe? The one or 2 times I've heard his show it was again more of a 30something-appeal show....again, not Imus' audience. AFAIK, Mike & Maddog are only airing on WFAN, not the network.

Barnicle would probably appeal to the same audience as Imus, but without the marquee value. He was, after all a frequent guest on Imus' show. Like Stern, Imus' audience tuned in to hear HIM, not someone else doing the same schtik. Ditto for sponsors who paid a premium to be on a name-act show, not a substitute.

ahhh..the listeners..

what about the sponsors? they are a little more sophisticated than they used to be.

they won't spend the local money on these local radio stations for a show like Free Beer and Hot Wings.

In fact my guess is most of them are history now without Imus!

ebol...

Maybe this is the PERFECT TIME to start experimenting with a few different format ideas?

I don't know who did the research that indicated that the Iraq War and horribly high gas prices are the only topics listeners are interested in? Of course...it's easier for a lot of radio stations to "follow the same wolf pack" than to make an attempt to try something a little different in morning drive? ???

Wouldn't it be neat if a radio station or radio group got up the courage to try a new format or morning talk show that hasn't been done in this market?

My question is...."is playing it safe with syndicated programming always the smartest way to go?" I know it's the cheapest! ::)
