Oprah on Letterman tonight

If anyone actually cares, Oprah will make her first appearance on David Letterman's show tonight. It's the first time she has been on since May 2, 1989 when "Late Night" did some shows in Chicago. Dave has always joked that Oprah doesn't like him and would never consider returning to his show. I wonder how the interview will go and if we'll ever find out why there has been some kind of conflict between the two.

My DVR has been set for a week. This will bring in some good numbers for Dave and CBS. Unfortunately for both, sweeps is over.

Our cable was out and my mom had been planning sor a week to watch this anyway I could get a copy e-mail [email protected]

I think the only reason Oprah came was to promote her new Broadway show (The Color Purple) which is playing right across the street from the Ed Sullivan Theater. The Color Purple debuted last night, the same night Oprah appeared on Dave's show. Coincidence? I don't think so.

I think you're right about that. Dave said that Oprah had no reason to come on his show with how busy she is and everything, but that was kind of a lie. I still think there is a "feud" between the two even if they both admit that there isn't. Maybe Dave is a little more mature now than when Oprah appeared on his show in 1989, but I don't think they are completely content with each other.

I didn't get that feeling at all. I think Oprah didn't know what to expect -- at first -- but as the interview went along, she seemed to really be happy to be there. As it was mentioned, there was no "feud", per se. IIRC, the last time Oprah was on Dave's show in 1989, it was awkward, according to Oprah.

I thought it was a great hour for Dave with Oprah. I thought he showed total class to "escort" her down the street to her opening. It really seemed, when it was all said and done, she was impressed and couldn't be more happy she came on.

I agree Oprah is worth a little under a billion dollars. She could easily BUY any amount of publicity she wanted. She could buy as much TV time as she needed. Her show makes or breaks books, doctors, or whoever appears on it.

I recall Oprah saying there was no fued she just didn't enjoy being the "Butt of his jokes."
