Oprah's OWN Network To Be Rebooted

We're well aware that the infancy of the Oprah Winfrey Network is nothing to write home about. Especially when the channel's ratings start attracting lower ratings than its predecessor.

Because of this - and mostly due to the fact that sponsors such as Procter & Gamble have invested so much in the network - OWN will be getting a "reboot," and it starts with moving its highest-rated program, "Oprah: Behind The Scenes", from Fridays to Sundays.

I guess a "reboot" is the next step before OWN just gets the "boot".

How's that going to help?

a reboot already? on a network that's what? 2 months old? that can't be good...

Or is it just panic setting in for Oprah, since something with her name attached to it is failing?

This isn't technically on-topic...
but what made Oprah's talk show so successful in the first place?
Was she known for anything nationally before she started the talk show?

well,
kind of sad actually.

Time for CrowTV!
An Oldies MTV! (only I would actually play Music Videos All day)

Who's in? :D

"The Color Purple"

This is very common. People love Oprah. But that love doesn't always transfer to everything and everyone she touches. So a lot of these shows simply aren't exactly what Oprah fans want.

The other issue, and we notice this in other forms of radio outside of terrestrial, is that not everyone is able to find channels they might want to use. The "user friendly" thing plays a part, and from what I can see, OWN is not always in the easiest part of the cable box. So just being on so many cable systems doesn't mean you're going to immediately pop up in everyone's most-visited channels. There is such a thing as cable Siberia, and in some cases, OWN is there.

In the Tampa Bay area, Bright House has OWN on cable channel 20 in analog and digital, as part of the main basic cable tier, between BET on 19 and HSN on 21 -- this was where Discovery Health was before the conversion to OWN. Since it is in a tier that is available to all cable subscribers, it should be easy to find. But as to if anyone would watch, that's another question.

Maybe they should try re-airing old episodes of Oprah's show. I'm not talking the past 3 years, episodes possibly from the 80s and 90s. It would be neat to see them and it could help the network. Just an opinion.

She doesn't "OWN" them.

I'm not sure that many of those shows would hold up well and increase the tune-in factor.

I'll admit to being somewhat of an Oprah Fan, but OWN is a mess. I am shocked (shocked!) by the drivel that they are airing. Replays of medical reality shows from 2005. Movies from 2+ decades ago. I've scanned the listings and found "Say Yes to the Dress" and other Discovery/TLC/Health retreads.

They over-promised and surely disappointed many who bothered to tune in.

She does have them all...she just doesn't want to air them at all. Oxygen got her to put a stake in their network in 2000 based on the fact she offered them reruns to air, but when they really needed them she refused to air them and instead offered "Oprah After the Show" for a couple of years before they parted ways.

Well, as far as I know there's already VH1 Classic for that ;)
Even they have gotten away from playing videos in recent years.

Yeah. And they don't play videos all the time except for these rare occasions where they play 80s A-Z songs or artists in alphabetical order

HA! Here in Canada, the company with the Canadian rights to the name went all out to shut down a station that already targeted women and had okay ratings, just to be relaunched as OWN...and nobody's watching!

The lesson: If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
