Optimod 8100A Processing question!

Hello,

I have been asked to adjust the processing for a station, and I need some advice. I am very familiar with just the Optimod and Stero Maxx by itself, but when it was "new" in the 80's. I am more familiar with the new Digital Optimods.

Right now the station is over compressed and under leveled, and it is creating a lot of Multipath. The main station processing has an Aphex Compellor, CRL SEG-800 Compressor, StereoMaxx and an Orban 8100A, in that order! I have been brought in to take some equipment out, and adjust the setings and I want to get a feel for what should be removed. Our Audio is TM Gold Drive and Using Audio Vault. Format is hot AC!

I want to take the CRL out of the Chain, as well as the stero Maxx, since I have never been a fan of it.

If you are using an Optimod 8100A, make sure that you are plugging it into the UNBALANCED exciter input! if you plug it into the balanced one, you WILL get a lot of multipath.

Audio processing will in itself not cause multipath (except as described above-it has to do with the Optimod 8100 output configuration). What can cause multipath is excessive 38 kHz carrier. The 38 kHz carrier should be supressed by at least 45 db.
I would pull out the stereo maXX but leave in the CRL. Set the Orban's release time to 3 and its bass coupling to fully independent. run the limiting control full HARD and set the clip control for +.5 db. Run the input into the Orban so the total G/R runs between 10 and 15 db (its sweet spot).

Good luck.
