Optimod 8300 vs 8400

Goran Tomas said:
Also, the older 8400 AGC (not window gated) although not as good at maintaining the levels, gives the overall sound punch and "feel" you can't exactly get with the new one. change ;)

Regards,
Goran Tomas

The change to the window-gated AGC occurred between the 8200 and the 8400 -- the 8400 has always had a window-gated AGC, but our new AGC substantially improved the window gating functionality via an entirely new algorithm. Among other things, this added "soft borders" to the window and made the window asymmetrical around the current gain reduction. The new AGC also improved the operation the bass coupling and improved the performance of the level detector in the master compressor sidechain to resist ducking with certain waveforms that could cause the older AGC detector some problems.

Bob,
Any possibility of another 8400 upgrade? Sure would be nice to get it back on-par with the 8300 or 8500 ;D

While we will continue to support the 8400 for a long time with parts, service, and application advice, the 8400 is a discontinued product. Like any other company, we have limited engineering resources and we need to apply those resources to developing upgrades for currently manufactured products and, of course, developing new products.

LOL! It appears that being CHEAP and getting the 8300 is paying off this time. :) For the record I LOVE our 8300!

It paid off even more for me with my 8100 from ebay. And there is no lack for parts and it doesn't sound like an Oganowskianized Optimod ;D

Or the nice new Omnia ONE I have, all ready to go with loads of updates still to come (with much better tech support I may add).
