Optimod 8400: Settings Question

Never saw the "inside" of an Optimod 8400.

I want it to sound like the Default preset of Sound Solution for Winamp.
What do I need to do? Step by step baby talk, please. I am not an engineer.

And please...(you know who):

spare me the editorial comments. I just want the settings.

You want info on how to make an 8400 sound like a Winamp plug-in preset?

Did you mean you want to make your Winamp Plug-in sound like an 8400?

Just making sure I understand your question..

I want to make an 8400 sound ****ing huge like Sound Solution...yes.

"but the 8400 can sound so much better than a winamp plug-in". I realize this.
I need a starting point. This is the quickest way I can verbalize it.

How do I do it? Step by step, laymans terms. Thanks.

No need to express yourself with expletives on the board. This is a professional discussion.

Simply put, audio processing is entirely too subjective...and too complicated to give an easy answer to your question.

If there is a compellor or some other AGC in front of the 8400, make sure that it is levelling, and not doing a lot of compression.

Otherwise, call Orban and ask for the most open, yet loud preset suggestion that they have.

I know of only one preset for another box that approaches what I think you are looking for.

I've never heard the sound solution preset, nor do I believe many of the broadcast engineers on this board have, either.

Maybe if you were a bit more polite, people would be more apt to help you.

Honestly, without knowing what your setting is, there is no way we can tell you how to do it on an 8400.

Why don't you ask people who have an 8400 for tips on making it sound competitive? I have one on my CHR, and it sounds *expletive* huge.

We're a pretty friendly lot here, but nobody reacts well to some one busting in and being rude.<P ID="signature">______________

That's probably a good thing. If you had, you'd be cringing at the thought of setting an 8400 to sound like it.

Post 899 dedicated to no one. No 89.9's in any of that markets I've ever been in.<P ID="signature">______________

As a moderator, I would appreciate you using other adjectives other than "f**king huge".

Beyond that, I believe there’s a preset called “Big and Loud. I would use that present and then I would run your input beyond the recommended level.

You may also want to try some of the “Greg” presets as a starting point.

You may also want to increase AGC drive to bring up those lighter elements.

Hope this helps.

I'm sorry! I didn't think it would actually print the word...I will edit.

Thanks for your help...Last time I asked for advice, one of the mods (SamBuca, I think) said he would only help me if I paid him! :p:

First off...don't use a winamp plugin as your starting point for comparison. An 8400 can run circles around that crap for a hundred years and never get tired. Start with the presets on the optimod unit and find one that is closest to your desired sound and tweak from there until happy.

Have you tried inserting a couple of "BOSS" guitar distortion/compression pedals infront of your 8400? That aughtta do it. <cringe>

I think I'm the "you know who" he mentioned....so I'll be damned if I'm going to explain it to him.<P ID="signature">______________

I have a GREAT F#&ing idea! I'll make this guy with the 8400 one hell of a F#*ing deal! I'll trade him a complete F*#ing computer with a totally awsome F*#ing sound card with Sound Solutions installed and set to my official "Stun your ears until you puke" soon-to-be-patented setting for Sound Solutions.

Wow dude! That would totally rock!

Party on.
