Orale buey! (WMGG AM 820)

"Mega Clasica" is no more.

It's now "La Preciosa".

I was in the Tampa Bay area yesterday (Saturday 01 Dec 2007). As I was driving I decided to tune in to AM 820 to listen to what the station was airing. I suddenly realized it was neither classic tropical nor ballads.

We now know what is to become of this once good-to-listen-to station.

Than goodness there's La Nueva 92.5 FM...Siempre De Rumba.

Not being fluent in Spanish, I'm guessing that they will be joining the ranks of 680 to become a religious talk station en espanol?

I noticed on 820's website, the give the (false) impression that they are a Tampa station, as Tampa is the only city listed on the website.

They may be a "Tampa" station during the day (as well as a Bradenton, Clearwater, and St. Petersburg station) when they are at 50,000 watts, but a night when they reduce their power to 1,000 watts, they are basically a Largo (city of license and where their towers are located), Clearwater, Pinellas Park and Seminole station. They are receivable in extreme western Hillsorough county and the western third of Tampa, but not with a very listenable signal even in those areas, espacially after 820 WBAP in Texas kicks in with their night-time sky wave signal about an hour after local sunset in Largo.

Sorry about the last post; had I read the radio-info.com home page, I would have seen that the "la precios" format is adult hits/standards....... at least in the situation of the ClearChannel owned station in Texas that is dropping that format due to low ratings. (2.2)

Nope, it is Mexican adult hits.

"Buey" is an ox. "Güey" is the term you are loking for... kinda' means "dude" in colloquial, blue collar Mexican street langauge. Preciosa listeners would not use that term.

WMGG AM 820

David!

I see you chimed in your two cents.

Anyways...

I can officially say AM 820 is in the toilet...where it belongs.

I'm glad there's 92.5 FM to listen to whenever I head to the Tampa Bay area.

There are likely enough Mexican heritage persons in the area to make 820 work... not the same as can be said for the 740 flip in Orlando.

It depends who is better. Preciosa is a successful format when not directly challenged by the same format better executed.
