Orban 222A Stereo Spatial Enhancer with Optimod 8200

Has anybody had any experience with the 222A Orban Stereo Spatial Enhancer, coupled with an Optimod 8200??? I'd like to know what the pro's and con's are.... Is it the case that reception on the fringe of the transmission area is affected?

I wouldn't say that the downside is what you might lose in your fringe area, so much as it's just the fact that the 222a doesn't do that much in the way of stereo enhancement.

222+8200 is a nice, but light combo. A StereoMaxx will add more stereo image but quickly a poorer result on the voice/music balance. You may also consider the Ariane Sequel...

Hi Andy, just to know, First, 222A did NOT affect the fringe of your transmission area (if use the recommended settings) as other stereo image units, Stereo Maxx for example YES (that is tooo Fancy & Fake for me with lots of side effects).

Second, Orban 8200 from its design have some “lack” on mids region about 1-3 kHz (by the way I like that lack, others don’t) which unfortunately is the same STEREO effect treatment region of 222A, so any expand (even under well controlled L-R of 222A) on this region comes reduce it by action of the AGC on 8200 plus the automatic re-equalization of multi-band so the region 1-3 kHz will suffer and may loose your mid energy plus some MONO “steal” on that audio region.

Also Stha have quite right to say that “poorer result on the voice/music balance”.

So as happens with all stereo image tricks you must follow the golden rule
“Less Is MORE:)

Best regards
XFon
