Now that I have finally gotten the PC to recognize the serial connection to my 5300, it tells me that the unit has version 1.1.2.85, and that the remote software is version 1.1.3.88.
Of course, the software would now like me to upgrade the firmware in the unit! ARRRGGGHHH!
My only fear is that any parameters that are 'different' in the new firmware will cause my CAREFULLY tuned settings to default to factory presets... or worse, that my settings might become corrupt in the process, leaving me at square zero.
I believe all the major changes were between 1.0 and 1.1, so hopefully this will not be a problem.
ALSO... I am assuming that the firmware update is actually 'contained' within the remote software so that it can update the unit through only the serial connection... Hopefully it does not ASSUME that the computer is connected to the internet (it is not) and attempt to 'download' an update to the unit.
This is all for the purpose of accessing the "matrix" mode... to operate the AGC in L+R/L-R mode (in this case, to limit separation of certain stereo material to reduce multipath issues)
