Orban 6300

Hi all, I'm new on this board and there seems to be a lot of good info being tossed about. Anyway I have five (5) 6300's and I noticed a common problem among them all: Changing certain, if not most, of the parameters from the front panel causes a lockup and reboot! It all works when I use the PC Remote, but I would certainly like the front panels to work before installation! I did e-mail support a while back and they were able to duplicate my problem and said they would get back to me. This was a while back and I was wondering if anyone else knew about the problem, or if it was being worked on.

Thanks,
Dave

Re: Orban 6300 - FIXED!

Never mind. I just needed to be directed to the upgrade file! Thanks :

Version 2.0.3:

Corrects a bug that could cause the 6300 to lock up under certain circumstances when user presets were added, the 6300 was powered down and repowered, and then the user entered I/O Calibrate or some other submenu....

Briefly thought about upgrading our 6300 then reality set in. AM HD's been shut off for a long time & the 6300's sitting in the racck shut off.

The 6300 is useful for processing any "flat" medium and can also be used in transmission channels using 50us or 75us preemphasis as long as you don't try to achieve extreme loudness in the pre-emphasized case. In addition to HD Radio, the 6300 can be used for streaming, mastering, production work, STL protection, and television processing. I have used it quite a bit for mastering.

We have found that it even works fine with analog TV transmission using 50us or 75us pre-emphasis because this application does not call for "aggressive" processing, and we added presets specifically to support this application.

It's worthwhile to upgrade to the latest software version because starting in v2.0 we added a CBS Loudness Meter and improved the loudness controller, which is now dialnorm-aware. While the dialnorm-aware feature is mainly of interest in television and mastering applications, the loudness meter can be useful in a variety of contexts.

If a given 6300 is still running software below 1.1, then there is even more reason to upgrade because 1.1 incorporated the AGC improvements that we phased in throughout the Optimod line in the past two years.

The current version is 2.0.3, which included several bug fixes
