Orban 8300 Vs 8382

The 8382 does employ pre-emphasis for FM but does not have a stereocoder. So you would need to feed your audio from the 8382 to a external stereo coder. Other than that I should perform just fine.

I believe the Optimod TV processors include the CBS Loudness Controller, and use a special type of clipping which is more tuned to voice programming.

Hi Gents,

I have experience with both units. Both units were used for FM broadcasting purposes.
The 8382 was used in combination with an 8218 stereocoder.
The clipping mechanism of both units sound very different. The 8382 is much cleaner then the 8300. Though the 8300 sound much more FM like.
The 8382 DOES NOT HAVE low latency presets, 20ms is the lowest possible latency with the 8382.
The 8382 has dual channel processing ( no channelcoupling ) or can be set to stereo processing like the 8300.
The 8382 does not have a selectable lookahead mechanism for bass clipping. It's probably on lookahead ( 20ms delay ). Hard clipping is not possible.

I find the 8382 very suitable for FM purposes. It's sounds quite nice in conjunction with an 8218 or 2300 ( standalone stereocoder mode ).
