Orban AM

Anybody have any experience with the latest Orban AM product (9300/9400)?

I have a heritage N/T currently running an Omnia 4.5-AM. There's been some discussion of whether we need to update the airchain. I've had my hands in my share of processors, but I haven't touched this particular Omnia yet. Wondering if the 4.5 can be made to sit up and bark, or if the Orban is a grand improvement.

I have a 9400 and I like it. Bought it thinking I would go digital IBOC but that is very much on the back burner these days. The 9400 sounds quite different from the 9200 or 9100. It may even take getting an aquired taste for. We use it with the full NRSC, it is very clean sounding on the air. It has a more robust sound on voice. They designed the presets with more engergy and punch in that area (Vocal). That's what takes getting use too IMHO. It sounds quite good on AM receivers with poor frequency response which is most of them. If all were like the GE Superadios I might have a slight favor toward the 9200. That said, with all of the adjustments built into the 9400, you can dial in about any sound you want.

I know nothing of the 9300. Built to replace the 9200 as I understand. It's presets were designed along the 92's as well.

Hope that helps a little. Wish more would weight in on this thread. We get a lot of FM processor discussion and very little on AM. Maybe a sign of the times!?

I like the 9400. It's much better than the 9200 and might be slightly better than the 9100

I also like the Vorsis AM-10, which recalculates the crossovers as you narrow bandwidth. I have a VP-8 with AM software and it has nice kick to it.

The DSP-X AM sounds good, it's got some of that Orban texture with a more solid bass. Still not 100% sure yet since I have a demo. The AM Mini I also have, but have not had a chance to get it on the air as of yet.

I have not spent much time with the Omnia ONE AM, but I can tell you the original factory presets were not so hot. I'm sure Cornelius is working on AM presets as we speak.

You should contact our Support crew, and get the latest software for the unit. Cost to you is zero. The Omnia.AM boxes stand up and bark very well against all offerings.

Geez...no pressure there! :)

I thought the factory Omnia.AM presets were pretty good. At some point, I'm sure I'll fiddle with those to see what kind of interesting sounds I can make. That'll involve dusting off my homebrew AM transmitter though! (Made it specifically to be able to pound processing through it) :-D

I do these presets when I hit a brick wall developing new stuff, and need a diversion for a while to regroup and cool the brain cells off from time to time.

:-D

Glad you like the ones I've done so far!

As long as you're at it...feel free to pound some out for the 4.5am ;D

We love our bass. As well as the high end ;) Let us know what you think of the mini as well, when you try it...
