Orban PC1100 Beta Update

Hi everybody,

Did anyone test the new beta software 2.1.2.45 or the previous one for the Optimod PC1100 ? Actually, I would like to install it, but as it is a beta version, I don't know if it is really a good idea... But I'm really eager to listen to the new AGC !

Thank you,
Mike

How new is this beta? I installed the beta about 3 months ago when moving the card to another computer, and noticed some cool new features but didn't know the AGC was changed...

Now, with the beta software, there are multiple record pins in Windows, ProcOut, or DirectOut so theoretically you could broadcast one feed with processing and one without, it has the ProcessorMixer out also.

I wanted to give a try to this new beta... It was a bad idea :-[ . Windows doesn't want to recognize the card any more ! Even after removing the driver and reinstalling the older version !!! What can I do ?

Thanks in advance to those who can help me

What version of Windows are you running?

I installed it, but don't really see much different with the interface. Can someone from orban enlighten us on the changes? I can't find any docs on what is new to play with, but I've installed it and it works great so far.

There will be a new non-beta release of 1100 software soon (probably in the next few weeks). Most of the improvements have been on the control side so that the card works with the Windows Mixer and meters and can be automated by applications that talk to the Windows Mixer. The drivers have also been improved to make WAVE I/O more robust when many 1100 cards are operating in one computer or PCI extender chassis.

Except for the improved AGC that we have been phasing in to many products, the 1100's audio processing is unchanged from the original v2.0 release. If I recall correctly, the current beta has the new AGC.

Mr.Orban does the card have selectable pre-emphasis? Might be a way of doing a budget on air processor.Just a thought. No experience with the card, looks like a great deal, though.Best to you..

It does offer 50us and 75us preemphasis limiting, but this feature is included so that the card, when used as a studio AGC or multiband pre-processor, can protect older analog microwave STLs, which use preemphasis. The preemphasis limiting works by preemphasizing the sidechain of the card's look-ahead limiter. It is not designed for use as a final FM limiter because it cannot create a competitively loud on-air sound -- you need distortion-cancelled clipping for that.

That being said, if the application is on-air processing for a low-budget non-comm station, it is certainly better than using a compressor or limiter originally designed for production or recording. The card has a very competent lowpass filter that can be set for 15 kHz, and the limiter will control peaks correctly as long as the transmitter's MPX coder does not have overshoot issues. The card cannot be configured to have a preemphasized output, so the following MPX coder's preemphasis filter would need to be engaged.

I've experimented with an the PC card driving an Orban 8000A with the release time set to almost all the way on slow for a nice sound.

application is for 500 watt non comm fm,share common studio and xmtr site,no STL.classic country format.xmtr has SG and pre-emph,but it can be defeated.Just thought it would work for their application.always like the pre-emph in the processor,or in this case on the card. Thanks for your input
