ORDWAY OVERNIGHT AT WBZ 1030

Open spot for 6 months Hire Ordway immediately.

Is his heart in a format not anchored by sports? A sports or mostly sports format overnights on WBZ would antagonize the existing audience. I doubt that CBS Boston management wants to do that; many of the advertisers that are heard on WBZ overnights are not the kind you would expect to find on sports radio. I think WBZ has found a winner with Jen Brien--assuming that her schtick works for more than a few weeks of 25 on-air hours/week. And for sure, Brien pockets a lot fewer $$$ for five hours on the air than Ordway would be likely to settle for. I could see Ordway "guesting" on 'BZ overnights for a week or so, though.

Is Ordway maybe too hyper or passionate for overnights, and would he be working solo (probably).
And if it's sports...?

>> A sports or mostly sports format overnights on WBZ would antagonize the existing audience.

Cannibalizes audience from 98.5, too (former Sports Hub evening host D. Amendolara is now part of the CBS Sports Radio Network heard overnights on 98.5). CBS Sports Radio btw has been aggressive in pursuing affiliates, whether full or part time...232 affiliates
http://radio.cbssports.com/

And agreed the current audience may not nec. want sports. Those who do can tune to 98.5,
93.7/850 (simulcasts ESPN overnight), or 1510*...when they don't have Brother Stair on ::)

*--they still haven't touched their site-- "This Is My Site Description" http://1510nbcsportsradioboston.com/
but do update their facebook
The facebook link on site above doesn't even link to their actual facebook
http://www.facebook.com/1510NBCSportsRadio?fref=ts

Santos revolutionboston.com site also not touched in awhile: "It's Official: Romney Picks Ryan!"
The facebook link on that page leads you to the "archival" site but at least you are eventually told to go to the Santos FB page.

Jeff Santos has to do something with 1510am. They claim they are "NBC Sports Radio" yet they put "Yahoo Sports Radio" including weekends which "NBC Sports Radio" now has shows all weekend. As well as 1510am airing that "Dream Vision 7 Radio Network" on weekends
They also air "NBC Sports Radio" "Dan Schwartzman" show on weekday mornings 6am-??
"Dan Schwartzman" show supposed to be on overnights 1am-5am weekdays
That Jeff Santos has to do a lot for that station. Doesn't he has an Assistant Program Director?
They should've either kept the call letters of (WWZN) or kept
"Revolution Boston 1510am WWZN" and keep that as National Talk Shows ( on LIVE) weekdays, and ("NBC Sports Radio" weeknights and weekends). There's a lot of great Talk Shows out there, that have many topics.

Um...maybe you were not aware... Jeff was never the owner or program director of 1510. He brokered time on them. During the time he bought, he scheduled and did shows, yes.
I think the owner is Blackstrap Broadcasting or Media America or something. They have an agreement with Dial Global to
run NBC sports radio. They have local shows, and yahoo sports radio fills in some of the other
slots. Brother Stair brokers time too, overnight.

Santos is currently maybe on one station in Boston--I think WRCA 1330 runs him at 6 am.
He was on WCRN 830 2-3 pm till the checks apparently stopped coming and besides they have
Michael Graham on now...brokered time.

>>That Jeff Santos has to do a lot for that station. Doesn't he has an Assistant Program Director?

Repeat. Jeff Santos is not an owner or program director or anything else to do with 1510.

I was pointing out that 1510's basic website hasn't been updated since just before it
went up in September. But their facebook is very active. Meanwhile Santos "Revolution Boston" site hasn't been updated since Romney chose Ryan as his running mate. You would think from that site that Santos is on 1510. He hasn't been since Sept or so. He just hasn't changed his site. There is a Jeff Santos facebook page though

Michael Graham brokers time for his WCRN show apparently through Money Matters. There are "bumpers" that say You're listening to Michael Graham on the New England Talk (Money
Matters!) Radio network. Money Matters said really fast.

Getting back to Santos I believe his more accurate site is http://www.revolutionradionetwork.com/
He may do his show (mostly on the Web?) from studios at Marina Bay in Quincy.

Hey, if you were still contractually obligated to carry Yahoo programming (assuming that's the case, hence why they still are) while you hopped on board NBCSR, wouldn't you promote the stronger brand?

Overnight sports talk on WBZ would be an utter disaster for the station, Ordway's popularity notwithstanding. People who listen to 'BZ late at night enjoy the variety of subjects offered by the hosts --- a tradition with the station that goes back to Dick Summer, 50 years or more. If these folks want to discuss sports, there are plenty of other opportunities to do that elsewhere.

My guess is WBZ has no plans to fill the overnight position with a permanent host. They save money by rotating staff with no full-time person and the benefits required for that. At the same time, they save their "image" because they are still local virtually all the time.

In reply to

"Open spot for 6 months Hire Ordway immediately."

I also think they have foung a winner in Jen Brien. What people might not realize is that she's been doing radio for well over 10-12 years and understands what it's all about. She can do political hardball stuff also.
I believe the WBZ audience wants someting a lot lighter and varied than Ordway's pontificating and a bunch of would be jocks calling from their parents basement. That's not everyone, I know.....so please dont turn this reply into a pissing contest. or a forum for calling me an a-hole since I already know I am. There are plenty of other outlets for the Sports callers to go as there should be. Someone with medical problems or other personal issues doesn't necessarily want to listen to Sports Talk in the early hours of the morning. It's only my opinion... yours may vary.

Ordway is a top broadcaster who identified with sports talk does not have to use it as a crutch to have a sucessfull show. He can handle a non sports program with ease ,if you recall post 911 sports was on the backburner as it it was for a while during recent Sandy Hook tragedy. And being on 50kw flame thrower in the night time he would probably have more listeners than last rating period on EEI
