Ordway trying to reach deal with Entercom (contract ends 12/31)

http://bostonherald.com/news/region...l_with_WEEI:_The_big_no_/srvc=home&position=3

Is Glenn done with WEEI? He's trying to work out a deal to keep going there but the Herald
reports he told listeners yesterday that he's off for the rest of the yr (3 more weeks)--and
who knows, it could have been his last day at EEI...but Glenn says they're talking and trying to reach
a deal before the end of the year.

>>“It’s been a great run. I’m hoping that the run will continue on into ’09 and well beyond that,” he said.

Maybe Big-O should think about one year deals till the money situation improves. His skills will still be there.
If he doesn't get signed by WEEI maybe WBCN can sign him.
All sports and T & R in the morning.
It is time for an FM sports station.

If there no Big O next year, How about The Big L.J. Show ?

At the end of D&C on Friday, Dennis made a big deal about Felger possibly have an "announcement" to make. They then (seemingly) joked about how they may have to wait two weeks to make the announcement. You don't suppose Entercom would just let O walk and attempt to replace him with Felger, do you?

Adiós [EDIT-inflammatory content]. Go join Manny!!

Your right dsturdy, I heard that exchange at the end of D&C also. And after hearing this news I'd bet the house that it's about this.

At this point I don't care, bring in Felger and let this money grubbing slob get a slap in the mouth with todays economy. Or better yet, bring in the two "Bob's" (Lobel and Neumey), that I think I'd listen to.

See Ya Ordway!!!

Doesn't Felgie have to be on the air at Comcast Sports at 6:30 every night? He's too much of a media wh*re to give up a cushy TV gig which has the best team in the NBA for a lead in. Working fulltime for a slowly dying radio company is equivalent of having a show on a station with no signal.

If Ordway goes, there will be takers. 92.9, 99.5, 104.1 to start.

In some ways we could forecast the Big O will just return to WEEI, though who knows? If he
doesn't get better offers elsewhere; of the three stations you mention:

92.9: picture of "Boston Sports FM" with Ordway and pals (from what I hear only Pete Sheppard is
under contract to Entercom), Jimmy Myers (already no stranger to the Greater Media building),
Hi! Howaya! Andelman, and maybe grabbing ESPN affiliation away from 890/1400.

99.5: goodbye classical? supposedly a "contract" agreement says they should keep classical but
there's been a change of ownership, plus Nassau could just find a way to put it on HD and say
they've satisfied the agreement

104.1: a sports-heavy "man talk" station? Keep Pats, move Bruins from the AM side.

All may seem far fetched if Glenn just signs on the dotted line at the sneaker building but who can say? What if that "sports network" deal hadn't fallen apart, and D&C did indeed jump to a proposed "sports FM"
elsewhere in town...

I bet you a coke that Ordway returns. Both sides are too smart to screw up their arrangement. Besides, since they changed the format (no Larry Johnson every week) the show is much better.

My prediction (not just for the Big O either):

Ordway - winds up at WBCN, which picks up the Bruins hockey that 'BZ hates (it gets in the way of their Traffic On The 3s) while flipping to talk/sports. Besides isn't most of 'BCN's music already heard on either Mix (the currents/recurrents) or 'ZLX (the classics) anyway? (BTW, when my 14-year-old niece told me she listens to Mix, I told her she may as well listen to 'BCN and 'AAF/technically 'KAF.)

Dennis and Callahan - broken up to handle their respective shows. Dennis will focus on sports on mornings, which will cause 'EEI to lose at least half their ratings (people love the racist banter), while Callahan will do his Big O racist banter in afternoons.

I'm not listening to radio right now, so maybe this guess is incorrect about Mix in mornings: Mix/CBS buys out Kiss/Clear Channel's contract for Matty, Billy, etc. because.....

......it's known that Clear Channel wants On Air With Ryan Seacrest (Scondras sound effects, VB: UUNH! UUNH!) on as many of its CHRs on AM Drive nationwide as possible, and that means that national corporate trumps local Kiss decisions.

Back to Entercom: I'm guessing that the company's pending stock market delisting followed quickly by its bankruptcy announcement will have 'RKO's most important commodities (Howie, Red Sox) jettisoned ASAP. Howie lands at 'TKK in mid-mornings or evenings (at less money, of course) while McPhee exits Morrissey Blvd. (Graham will still have a show there); Howie will be replaced by Sean Hannity and (eventually) the Felon.

My prediction everything will stay the same here in Boston . Big O will be back on WEEI, WBCN will be WBCN ( Awful Rock station and Great with the PATS ).

FYI, 'BCN and Mix do not have much music in common at all.

Given the current economy, having a music station you can voice track if you have to is a far cheaper option than trying to join what is already a crowded talk market--granted, CBS has the Patriots and the Bruins, but for how long?

Do you really want to get into a war with WEEI?

Even if CBS dumped the two franchises, would Entercom have the cash to pick up either one or the other? They likely could not afford both...

There are various contracts coming up soon..including the TV deals for Major League Baseball..does Fox even want to deal with the World Series? Would MLB be smarter to move it to its own network, which makes its bow on New Years Day, and divide the revenue among the various franchises, as it did with the XM deal?

C'Mon Steve:

1. How do you know WBZ "hates" Bruins Hockey? Have you had conversations with the GM, PD or any other member of managment?

2. The "BCN and Mix play the same music" thing has been disproven numerous times in other posts...why do you keep saying that?

As for this gem:

"......it's known that Clear Channel wants On Air With Ryan Seacrest (Scondras sound effects, VB: UUNH! UUNH!) on as many of its CHRs on AM Drive nationwide as possible, and that means that national corporate trumps local Kiss decisions."

No, it's known that Clear Channel wants On Air with Ryan Seacrest on as many stations as possible, but NOT in morning drive. It's being offered as a Midday or PM Drive show. Plus, there are certain CC shows which out perfrom the rest of their stations or are the catalyst for their stations success which are not going away...and Matty is one of them...so, nice try.

They did just that this week in Dallas/Ft Worth. They flipped their FM talk station to The Fan. It already had the Mavs but was non-sports the rest of the time. So they just flipped to sports, made some of the talent that stayed get a bit more sports heavy, brought in new sports talent, etc. This is with The Ticket already doing well there and an ESPN signal with a real stick. So if they are willing to go after the big guy in Dallas why not Boston.

I do kinda doubt it will happen, but you never know....the precident is set in other markets, the talent is available, they already have 2 major sports plus they can prob steal the WW1 contract next year for all the other football games.
