O'Reilly's out, Beck and Dobbs get NYC clearances

Well it Lou Dobbs and finally Glenn Beck get their NYC clearances on WOR Should be interesting how WOR's numbers will be affected. Beck's been looking for this for awhile now, and will be interesting to see if it has any, if at all affect for Dobbs' still relatively new radio program. At least WOR is still going to be local talk in am and in pm drive, because someone needs to be especially with WABC's plan to go all syndicated soon.

In the meantime, as many of you may have heard already O'Reilly's exit is now official.

I think the suits have made it clear they're no longer particularly interested in ratings.

Beck and Dobbs will kill the time between the commercials, all while sounding the way "talk radio" is supposed to sound: totally predictable and not so "interesting" that they would generate angry phone calls from ninety year-old wingnuts.

I give you the future of spoken-word radio.

Phooey... :p

Wow. That's something. I assumed the managers that run radio thought the national hosts could bring in more listeners and therefore more money.

Then why not stick with what was working, i.e. great local engaging hosts, if that's the case?

I think radio's managers are a bunch of lazy people who have little real radio experience and even less brains.

I listened to WOR this past week, the last week of real local daytime programming 9 a.m.- noon.
Joan's show was good, as was the food show hour. The host of that food show really knows what he's talking about. It's not some boring cooking show. He took callers from all over the metro area.

WOR that week sure was a lot more interesting than what was on 77-WABC, a national guy, maybe with a local show, but Joe Scarborough was clearly talking only about national political issues. And his co-host? Nikita or whatever the woman's name is who sets next to him on Morning Joe. No offense, I just can't recall her name at this moment. She was the one that got mugged. A good show, but no NY flavor, like the rest of the tin-can WABC.
