Original WBZ towers come down:

From All Access:

The historic original towers of WBZ-A/BOSTON have been taken down after 90 years. [EDIT-post truncated to comply with standards of Fair Use]

The best photos and details on this story can be found over at Mike Fitzpatrick's necrat.us

You can also find some more of the history in the fybush.com tower site archives.

this was entertaining to listen to. biked out to hough's neck across from WBZ's current towers. amazing North Carolina was able to work them midday on 80 meters

So I see on necrat.org that a few relics from the original setup survived - like the winch. Hopefully someone grabbed them for posterity (WBZ could maybe put some artifacts on display in their lobby).

I thought the original towers were (are) in Hull?

Hull is the third site to be used for a WBZ transmitter: the station started in Springfield in 1921 (at the site that just came down), moved to Millis in 1931 (changing city of license to Boston; the former low-power WBZA Boston facility was relicensed to Springfield at the original WBZ site), and then moved to Hull in the summer of 1940.
