Orlando Radio Static

Maybe just my opinion, but not much has happened in O-town radio so far this year:
- Bubba the Sponge has dripped in (unless you like to hear a fat man spend 4 hours complaining)
- S. Burke's demise results in a WTKS shuffle ... but could anyone tell?
- Bubba Wilson and Oddo get the $$$ canning ... but still are on the air
- 740 goes back to sports, and has to bring the Shot Dr. back as the drive time savior

Isn't it about time for somebody to shake up the market ... maybe something new and exciting in the morning?

Any thoughts?

If you read the latest "What's News?" post on our website www.cflradio.net you'll find something of interest about the possibility of "The Fiasco" returning to the Orlando airwaves.

Not likely that WHTQ is going to drop Bubba...Not likely WJRR is going to hire them back...I don't see anyone else entering the ROCK Format....so that pretty much leaves WTKS? Maybe crossing formats to WXXL? WWKA? WJHM? Launching Syndicated on C.C. out of Tampa and being picked up by WHOG?

Definately a boring year so far for Orlando Airwaves...

I do find it very funny however that Bubba is still on the Monsters even though he was fired. I used to HATE the Monsters, but when I got the news that one of the shows most important characters was being fired for no reason whatsoever, I have since become a strong supporter of the show. Hell, I do not even live in Central Florida anymore, and my only other alternative is BOB & TOM!!!!...BORING!!!, so I will gladly fire up the computer to listen to Russ and the gang...

On the other hand, get rid of Bubba the Fat dude (noboby cares) and put Pat & Taco back on the air....

now would be a perfect time to re-launch, WLOF, Channel 95........

Bill Barber could do mornings......

TC Dooley could do middays.......

Taco and Pat could still show up at WHTQ, just maybe not in the morning slot. They could very well land afternoons, where they've been and worked well in the past before. On Bubba's home station in Tampa, Cowhead has a show on in the afternoon drive slot... Who knows.

MIX before Sunny doesn't make sense to me .... seems like all the ads they book on 105.9 are national spots. I'm not a programmer, but how about this ... "DIXIE 105.9 - The Sound of the South" ... lots of country rock - Skinnard, Molly Hatchet, Tom Petty ... probably some young country too. Have some local "Bad Boyz" morning show, a 105 minute "Southern Shot" not stop music run mid-day ... a deep voiced southern Gal for the drive home, grab all the NASCAR programming and maybe some college football for weekends, lots of BBQ remotes, drive a painted up 4WD pickup with a Rebel flag. Tractor pulls, Honkey Tonks, Corn Hole tourney's. I think for a couple of years it would pull big #s just for being new, different and appealing the common Central Florida 18-40 year old. Possbile?

Before 1986, WOCL 105.9 was a country station as WELE "The Big Wheel". Interestingly WELE-FM was number one in many day-parts back in the 70s and early 80s as a country station. When American General Media acquired WELE in the mid 80s, 105.9 was switched to adult contemporary as "Class 105.9" before becoming oldies "Cool 105.9", "Power 105.9" and eventually "Orock 105.9".

"Dixie" might have some merit as it would be different from the typical "sameness" currently on most stations.

Yup. Good idea. Probably a dozen or so markets where this would work, and Orlando is one of them. Variations on the theme have been done, but never effectively--in other words, usually half-assed--expecting a few Southern Rock cuts to carry the day. But if it was done whole hog, like you describe--and done on a competitive Class C stick--it could work, and for more than a couple of years.

Don't know what you're getting paid to do, but you're a programmer--or at least have some programming brains in there somewhere!
