Orlando's 580 WDBO poor audio, poor signal, a quick fix

According to local sources it's apparent that Orlando's 580 WDBO is on a nation wide search looking to replace their entire engineering staff, entertaining, what appears to be, offer's from several renowned radio station engineering firms, one of which, who claims to have the ability to insure, offering their technological services, to reposition 580 WDBO with unsurpassed audio sound quality, signal strength, growth and stability, some of which WDBO's current engineer's for some reason or another can't seem to deliver.

One local insider close to this source, did say, even in the broadcast coverage area, Listening to 580 WDBO, at anytime during
the day, no matter where you are in Orlando, sound's like WDBO radio is broadcasting from a box of cocopuff's, and he goes on to blame's WDBO's engineer's for this problem.

If they tried a power increase they'd need multiple towers and nulls to protect stations on 570 in Tampa and 590 in Clewiston during the day, never mind all the stations that have sprung up on 580 at night, since they got their two-tower site authorized in the 1930's. It would no doubt resemble 540's setup.

First of all, there is no WDBO Engineering dept only Cox Engineering, which in this cluster involves 5 other stations. Second, if they sound so bad why are all their stations consistently top 5 12+ in the rating's. WDBO always being 1 or 2 in the market. Thirdly, there is no IBOC because if you follow radio in this market you would know that they run HD on 96.5 HD2. So much for your "source."
It's takes years for an engineer to learn a plant, very rarely do engineers get fired because of this...none the less, a whole department. If you were in the industry you would know this.

People will listen to good programming in spite of sound quality. Separate conversations for the most part.

I don't live in the market anymore and don't know if they run IBOC on DBO or not. I didn't say they did, I said "IF"... big difference. I never said I had a source. However, in an earlier post about delay on Magic games Randy Kabrich, who IS in the industry and DOES know what he is talking about said this...

Again, its the IBOC delay on WDBO which people are hearing. The IBOC delay also delays the ANALOG NonHD Signal so that the 2 signals match up seemlessly.

The fact that a WDBO feed is carried on 96.5 HD2 is separate from and irrelevant to the conversation about whether WDBO is running IBOC.

Many AM stations running IBOC are having massive signal problems as a result, KDKA in Pittsburgh as an example. These symptoms are consistent with the IBOC issues faced elsewhere.

I disagree with your assertion that a station can be both poor sounding, that they would replace there whole engineering department and still have good rating. This post is not about replacing a few interns, it's about replacing the engineering department for not just DBO but 6 radio stations. The engineers that I know have years of experience and education. I believe that the premise that they would do that because of delay issues during the Magic Games that may or may not exists is ridiculous and for who ever posted that to be trying to start rumors about people's livelihood is wrong.

My point about IBOC is that AM IBOC is dead on arrival, it never had gotten any type of momentum. The only people on AM that is doing it is Radio Disney. Why would Cox worry about that when they have their AM already on HD that is all...

Funny how this stormychuck guy has made himself the foremost authority on WDBO's Engineering Needs and Progress or according to him lack there of....Like he has a direct link to the Cox GM's and will be informing us of their decision to fire their whole engineering staff after they get through calling him...ridiculous assertion. Again for him to be dismissing it as "oh well a few more people unemployed with their families struggling," well I take exception to that...As long as he is right on this thread is apparently all he cares about...what a tool.

If Steve Fluker (DOE for Cox Orlando) had the opportunity to do the processing for 105.9 you would notice a drastic increase in listeners because then the station would sound just as awesome as WMMO, WHTQ, WPYO, WCFB, WWKA, and WDBO. CBS would be honored to have someone like Steve on their staff, but he is happy where he is and is not going anwhere anytime soon. (well...maybe Hawaii) If you want to try out your new material then might I suggest open mic night at the local comedy club downtown.

Lame afternoon personality on CBS station is replaced by Audio Vault. Regular listeners of the station let out a huge sigh of relief as they discover it was not the processing that was bad, it was the talent. Management for 105.9 issues an apology to the entire listening area for such an assult on the ears not felt since Ed Tyll.
