Anyone hearing this? Its going on at night... lots of static and interference with the phrase "there's something wrong with your radio" being repeated.

I just heard it too. I did hear them saying o-rock 1059 in it though. I don't know what the hell their doing. Perhaps it's something for the nighttime show that started this week. Now their playing normal music. And they just cut off the song went to that sweeper again, and are now playing Nine Inch Nails. I hope they are not thinking of jacking off the format.

I really don't like the fact that they have played the Black Crowes "Hard To Handle" three times in the last three days. It just doesn't fit the format.

maybe they're stunting, getting ready to segue into the Free FM thing and go head-to-head with WTKS? (best guess)

Per the station's weekly newsletter I received earlier in the week:
---
THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG

Something very, very wrong in 2006. Keep listening to O-ROCK 105.9 as things at night become very strange.

---
So I doubt it's anything more than a promo for something within the existing format. Why would the local content be involved in pushing something if it were related to a format change? That usually warrants unplanned pink slips, not pre or cross-promotion.

..Then again, I'm always wrong... :)
Edited by byron on 12/21/05 06:20 PM.

If that happens then there will be something wrong with 105.9. But then again this won't be the first time CBS (formally infinity)Radio has made dum decisions with the programing of their stations. I heard them this evening alude to something about something happening in (I think) 287 hours. I guess we will find out then.
BTW their website is outdated. It's currently (9:35PM) showing Mel Taylor as being on, The jocks page also shows that as well as Jody Vining still on in mornings running Howard.
Edited by FrankF on 12/22/05 02:37 AM.

There's something wrong with WOCL's ratings

The latest trends came out and WJRR is beating them (at least in the overall 12+)by more then a full point. They might as well try something different.....But What?

287 hours would fall late in the day on Monday, Jan 2nd.

Nah, your not wrong....H/R says it's a new night time
program coming to O-Rock

Here is the problem:

--Something very, very wrong in 2006. Keep listening to O-ROCK
105.9 as things at night become very strange.--

sounds to me like ORock is having a hard time competing with JRR...so they have to pick on someone their own size...after all...how better to attack WTKS than by hiring their former night guy to do mornings against TKS Muscle, and put 2 no-brainers on at night for content based programming, against something that is non existant on TKS's end anyways...

Whats wrong with that??? Nothing. Except having to throw the towel in to JRR.

Why would they put Jody and Scott on nights only to change the schedule again a few weeks later (they've only been on weeknights for less than 2 weeks)? Doesn't make sense to me, unless it was a desperate effort to put something entertaining on until this new night program came along... personally I think they should work on improving daytime talent before touching nights. Steve is/was tolerable after Stern through the noon hour, but he's not an afternoons guy (especially on a modern rocker), AND Carter is horrific (he always has been, even when he did weekends)... I used to be a P1 for O-Rock but the new Drew/Mel morning show + Carter middays + Jody/Scott obnoxious "let's kill puppies for ratings" evening show = switching to JRR. Crash and Buckethead are WAY more entertaining, and even though it's still overplayed FM music, the personalities keep me tuned in or constantly flipping back. Earlier this year I got really attached to WOCL when Bobby threw in a much broader selection of golds and changed up the station's sound, but it's all been going downhill since then... playlist is way too tight and beaten to death, the sound is much softer/"pop"-ier (understandable if that's what you're going for), daytime personalities are bland, mornings are without Stern (and no good replacement from a 1st impression), and evenings are worse without Mel.

Now getting back on topic... I started hearing the static teasers too. I heard them, and my first impression was to SCREAM at the radio. Yeah, I yelled! Why? Cause as they were used to segue into commercials, through music-ID-music sequences, and literally cutting off songs halfway and going straight into the next song... got EXTREMELY ANNOYING. At first I thought I was being screwed with as a listener, but I'd hear it every 20ish minutes and I realized that it wasn't some joke, that it was actually planned.... I felt like it was being done before every stopset, possibly to shamelessly draw my attention to the ad or something. Then I'd hear a song cut off and started really wondering. It got me wondering, but it didn't keep me tuned in - it made me tune OUT. I don't think that's the intention of a stunt/teaser.

Tonight I did hear a synthesized mention of the 1/2/06 date and the # of "hours left" sets up the announcement during the 8am hour. Right now I'm actually liking the idea of a potential format flip... if 'OCL can't bring itself outta the ratings toilet and make their sound more interesting during the dayparts that matter, then a flip might be welcomed by O-town.
______________

Wow...internet radio boy has some strong opinions. Too bad your credibility went out the window when you used the words "Buckethead" and "entertaining" in the same sentence.

I'm in Miami; every now and then I hear from friends in O-Town hearing a rumour going around town that a full market signal's going to give a run at Oldies in 2006.

If not a taker-on of 104.1, what about oldies, and if not oldies, some kind of 60s-80s AC as COOL 105.9 to take on Magic??

I think you'd be more likely to see O-Rock go Jack, but then again they might not feel there's a hole for it with MMO there.

Infinity's been dropping oldies stations, not adding them.
______________

True. How about this then, for fun?

Cox and CBS swap 98.9 and 105.9. WMMO's now on 105.9, and WOCL on 98.9, with some extra cash in their pockets for the sale/swap fo the full C for the C2, see a flip to JACK, taking on WMMO, with that written into the agreement somehow that they won't compete, however could get around it.

Who would win that battle then?

WJRR by default...I guess.

stunting?

Never happen. Doesn't make sense to go through musical chairs for no real reason
(for either group).

gosh, you guys love playing dungeons and dragons with the radio stations in this town...one mention of bad programming and you call for companys to trade stations and etc...

im sure the fine o-rock-ians are pumping themselves up enough to make them try to stick it out...until orlando realizes that in 6 months, youd rather hear JRR play the same tunes than hear ORock say the same stuff...to think that what ORock is putting forth now can remain strong for an entire year...or years to come...is beyond me...JRR is doing well now and is coming up on a book they are notorious for nailing, with Earthday Birthday and whatnot coming up...Orock may be able to make a push at TKS...but lets be honest...who are they REALLY competing with...

Drew...Mel..."silent rob"...Jody...Scott...i say you guys have 6 months to come up with something before you find yourselves saying "y'all" and introducing garth brooks records:)

Reminds me of when Power 105.9 became Orock 1059, employees showed up that day (Halloween 2000) wearing country attire to fool people
