Osborne and Knox's WNSX debuted Tuesday

WNSX, Winter Harbor, 97.7 signed on early Tuesday. As posted earlier by DidYouKnow, Joe McMillan was the morning man and on 6 to noon and Mark Osborne was on from 12 noon to 6 p.m.. They also brought back Stu Marckoon to do news updates during morning drive. It was good to hear some local flavor again and a not bad at all first day. Technically things sounded fine. No major (or minor for that matter) hiccups.

The format is "smooth rock and roll" and has earned a preset on the pickups presets knocking former Osborne station Kiss 94.5 off the preset bandwagon.

Musically it was an interesting mix, 70's heavy into the 80's. Too much Chicago for me, I counted 3 in two hours from 12 to 2. Plus at least 3 more during the time I listened (7a-10a, 12noon-2p, 4-7p). There was also a lot of Genesis, Doobie Brothers and Toto (Roseanna, Africa, 99). No currents :( and thank goodness no Streisand/Midler/Manilow.

I was VERY PLEASANTLY SURPRISED to hear Elton John's 11 minute "Funeral For a Friend" at 6:20 a.m., George Harrison's "Isn't It A Pity" at 7:20 a.m. Yay! Also Mark brought back some songs I have not heard in this market for a loooooooong time, like Elton John's "Gray Seals" and Van Morrison's "Blue Money".

The big songs were there but also they dug deeper into what other stations would call secondaries or not played at all. Heard two Jimmy Buffet songs and neither of them were "Margaritaville" .... imagine that!

I'll keep an ear peeled to hear where this station goes, and I wish Mark and Natalie the best in making this a successful endeavor.

Here's a sample hour from 9-10 a.m.:

9:00 News update with Stu Marckoon (last one of the morning)
Linda Ronstadt - Blue Bayou
(Personal conundrum - haven't heard this song in a dog's age so I'm not sure if it's Don Henley or not. Don't even remember the title. ARRGH! Old age IS sinking in. I'm sure someone will set me straight.)
??? - You're a part of me, I'm a part of you. Whereever we may travel, whatever we go through.
Fleetwood Mac - Hypnotized (Another one I haven't heard on the airwaves up here in awhile.)
Stopset
Rod Stewart - The First Cut Is The Deepest
Doobie Brothers - The Doctor
Gerry Rafferty - Right Down The Line
Mark Cohn - Walking In Memphis
Stopset
Beatles - Oh Darling
Firefall - You Are The Woman
Boston - Amanda
Todd Rundgren - We Gotta Get You A Woman
Pablo Cruise - Love Will Find A Way (OK, here's the one "slip", they played this one only about 2 hours previously, but all in all a GREAT first day)

Only in a small market could you get away with a playlist like that! Hypnotized? Pablo Cruise? Hiccup! Best of luck anyhow. No, really!

Close...it was fellow Eagle Glenn Frey "Part Of Me, Part Of You".

Thanks Bobby. The way the ol' brain was acting, you'd think I must be drinking some of that rot gut that Old Port Wino carries around.

I've been listening to them for much of the weekend, and was quite impressed. "Smooth Rock and Roll 97-dot-7". And they always give their call-letters, a trend most stations seem to be afraid of these days.! Good variety of "softer" album cuts, as well as a few old gems. Glad they are staying away for the overplayed 60's 70's Golden hits. (Beach Boys, Frankie Valli, etc.)
I wouldn't really call them a "Soft AC" station. Thankfully no Babs Streisand, Lionel Ritchie or Madonna. But Paul Simon, Linda Ronstadt, Jimmy Buffett, and more alternative artists..even heard Al Stewart, Alan Parsons Project, Tears for Fears. But, definitely not a harder-sounding classic rock station like WWMJ 95.7 or Frank 105.5 WBYA.

All in all, a nice change and I wish them well!!! Have set 97.7 on my car-tuner, replacing 95.7.
Haven't had a chance to hear their morning drive-time. Habit forces me to bounce back and forth from Maine Public Radio and Morning Edition to Rick Foster on WDEA-1370. ..Gotta have "Altitude" Lou MacNally's weather on MPR as well as my Patsy Cline and the Ray Conniff Singers to start the day..

OH BROTHER!

It always amazes me how quickly somebody can attack a new radio station (and format) when it's just getting started!

If you don't like the diversity of classic album tracks and want to listen to the same old playlist of 50 songs...you've got plenty of other radio options. Personally, I like the idea of the long album tracks. Joe and Mark know the music backwards and forwards...and THAT'S A PLUS too!

Can't you give the WINTER HARBOR RADIO STATION (at least) a few weeks to establish itself before you (verbally) tear it apart? Geesh!

Agreed Argy!

I'm intrigued listening to the station every day. It's a nice refreshing change...
