Oscar's 2020

Nice start. Perhaps the best opening in years, and then Steve Martin and Chris Rock were hilarious. We will see if it gets bogged down, but so far so good! Waiting for the tributes to Kobe and Kirk Douglas, which I understand will be substantial, outside the usual in memoriam.

Nice of Elton John & Bernie Taupin to win for Best Original Song in Rocketman. Elton won once before for a Disney movie, but this was Taupin's first Oscar.

Spike Lee was decked out in a custom suit with "24" on the lapels for Kobe. The only time a Knicks fan will wear Lakers colors.

I missed it due to work, but congrats to Brad Pitt for winning Best Supporting Actor. I was REALLY hoping Tom Hanks would finally get his well-deserved award for his wonderful portrayal of Mr. Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Nope. And it should have gotten NOMINATED for Best Picture for all I know. :(

Hollywood elites...immoral...keep your opinions to yourself...Bob Hope...back in my day...mediocre....

Did I miss any of the message board BINGO squares/Oscar Edition?

Just like it's been in most years, the winners were mostly favorites of the critics and not what the public liked, which is why I never watch them.

Not a chance of that happening tonight. Scheduled window ends at 8pm pst. I think they we be lucky to make 8:45. But my guess is this is expected.
They showed a clock and it said 7:49. Not a problem for people in the West, but we in the East want to go to bed. I haven't seen it all yet.

What do people watching ABC in the West see when it's over?

I would have preferred a host, but Steve Martin and Chris Rock did a great job with their part.

I liked a lot of the humor from the presenters.

And except after they showed how some songs are essential to the movies they were in, the music was great.

I want to see most of the nominated movies. Lots of great clips.

Multiple postshow specials (syndicated I think) aired afterwards until 11PM. On KOMO and KXLY they went to syndicated/infomercials/etc after the news. KAPP/KVEW doesn't air news on weekends, so they had Raw Travel at the 11PM break and went back to even MORE coverage from the postshow until 12:30 in the morning!

They got SOOOOOOOO political that if they were a thread here
the mods would have to zot the whole thing.

Maybe. I thought the Renee Zellweger speech was very uplifting, getting people to focus on their similarities rather than differences.

When a foreign film wins Best Picture there's not much to say.

Hanks is an Academy Award winning actor.
