Oscars Not Live...

...in Hawaii.

The broadcast, which starts with a "pre-show" at 7 ET/4 PT, will not be live in
Hawaii at 2:00, but is delayed until 6:00. It is on live in Anchorage, at 3:00.

So call or email your HI friends tonight, and tell them who won. ;D

I'm probably not alone in feeling that......I just don't care.

I can appreciate Hollywood wanting to honor its big moneymakers but it isn't necessary to make a spectacle of the (mostly boring) presentation.

I mean, don't these big egos get enough adulation already?

couldn't agree MORE! join my little Drinking game... take a drink everytime one of these "Ham Actors" makes a "Left Wing" politcal statement or "Drones On" about "Their favorite Left Wing Cause". or turn the channel, BECAUSE, WHO NEEDS THIS SH*t! ::)

You don't even have to call...the Internet will take care of any suspense.
I will enjoy the show...I love saluting American talent. Hollywood is one of the rare American industries that still rules worldwide.

i might tune in, if for nothing else, Billy Crystal is funny, besides i got that Drinking Game going on..

And the Daytona 500 has been postponed to Monday afternoon, so the Oscars will likely win the big ratings tonight, and not battle with the 500...

If I lived in Hawaii, or if I was vacationing there, the last thing I'd be concerned about on what I'm sure is a paradise-like Sunday afternoon would be an awards show. Even 6pm their time is a bit early. Good move on ABC's part to moving it later but I'd say go with 8pm or even 9pm.

In an industry that has always looked down on tv, I don't blame Hawaii's ABC to delay it. If someone there really needs to know, they can find out easily on line. If they want to be surprised and enjoy the show, just keep youself away from media Sunday afternoon. Perhaps lying on a tropical beach with a nice beverage. :)

As an aside, I love the mountain time zone for most of these "live" events. Reasonable start times and reasonable end times. (6:30 MTN start for the ceremony, probably over just about bedtime! Same for Super Bowl, College championships, World Series, etc. Love the MTN time zone for that, AND for 10:30 Letterman/Leno, and 9:00 Conan!)

There seems to be an odd "dial tone" sound during the live portions - when someone is speaking. ???

Glad to know that I'm not the only one hearing it. It's awful. It almosts sounds like a feedback problem at the Kodak Theater.

When I was in college, I had a friend who did a semester in Hawaii at the University of Hawaii. She said MNF 9at the time on ABC) was also tape delayed to the 50th state. I assume it goes live out there now on ESPN. Living on the East Coast, it was weird watching live cable TV when I was out in Hawaii. The prime time shows on Fox News Channel were on in the mid afternoon.

Anyone showing it live in Australia (where it's Monday afternoon in Sydney) or the UK (very early Monday morning)? If so in both cases, I won't be surprised if Hawaii stands alone on tape-delaying the event.

...and they usually pick the most artsy fartsy for movie of the year......even when others were
better.........they followed the script as usual this year.

I heard it too. I wouldn't have described it as a dial tone. Sounded like industrial equipment.

I know. There was a power line crew in my neighborhood last week getting ready to replace an old pole. Those trucks made that same sound.

They delayed MNF by an hour an Seattle for years for the news, except when the Seahawks were playing
Same thing with Portland. Hence KOMO-TV and KATU are sister stations. The only way you can hear the football games live is thru satellite dish or radio back then.

I'm on central time myself, and I can't complain about the start time for most of these events, either. 7:00-10:00 p.m. CST prime time has worked great for me my entire life! :)

Just let TMZ cover it.

Good point, plus they gave the Oscar to movies that no one went to see and the Oscar to the actress that trashed M Thatcher. BUT, all the attendees got their "goody bags" I'm sure and they all got to fawn over each other. Why worry about all the things going on in the world when we can gossip about Jolie showing her leg, right?
