Ellen seemed flat to me. Of course, she was likely doing material written for her by others.
Material likely approved by Oscar show producers.
Would the Oscars be able to have Fallon, Kimmel, Conan, Arsenio as host ? Or , would there be
network contract problems. ? Who else might be a good host ?

Beats me. It was on opposite The Walking Dead, so I didn't watch it.

Seth MacFarlane (last year's host) got a lot of scrutiny, especially with "We Saw Your Boobs"; the year before, Billy Crystal seemed a lot rusty after an eight-year hiatus; and in 2011, James Franco and Anne Hathaway BOMBED!!!! So it was safe to say that bringing Ellen back was the right choice.

But after all those times hosting SNL, they should seriously get Justin Timberlake next year!!! Besides, his concert DVD (and others featuring U2, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, and the Rolling Stones) was directed by the same guy who also did this year's Oscars: Hamish Hamilton.

Maybe Kerwin Silfies (who's been WWE's longtime -- and probably only -- TV director) should take a lot of notes from Hamish.

Start it earlier, put the junk in the red carpet show, don't waste time on silly stuff like selfies.

I only stay up that late if Dick Clark is going to kiss his wife.

I'm shocked that it draws the ratings that it does. It still went 30 minutes late. Considering that most of the nominees in the major categories weren't huge blockbusters, it's remarkable that the broadcast is a major draw and commands premium ad rates. I only saw the last portion because I was looking for the delayed local news and still didn't get to see it because the show went long. Whatever it is, the producers are getting people to watch. Good for them, I guess.

its sickening & sad to watch rich, arrogant hollywood humans feed their massive ego's
on televised award shows.

IMO - Ellen was fine. The ongoing pizza joke fell flat, but other than that, I thought she was funny. The group "selfie" wouldn't have been amusing if they hadn't temporarily crashed Twitter. THAT I found amusing.

Yes - the show is too long - it's the nature of the beast. This year, they didn't slap a time limit on acceptance speeches, and that made a difference.

I like Ellen but a lot of her stuff seemed to be ad libbed.....and much of it fell flat. Kind of like she was on a hangover. She was not at her peak IMO.

Me being a huge fan of all things Disney, I have to complain that Idina Menzel's performance of Let It Go was not the complete song. She could have sung the entire song and it still would not have taken as much time as some of those boring speeches. As for Ellen, she's now being labeled a "transphobe"---and who the heck came up with that word?---for making a joke about Liza Minnelli being a male impersonator in drag. It was just a silly joke but the Politically Correct Police are, very predictably, making a big deal out of it. Aren't there more important things to worry about?

I cannot believe John Travolta called Idina Menzel - Adele Dazim?! WTH? Was John Travolta even looking at the teleprompter, or was he drunk?

One of the entertainment news shows caught up with Liza later and she thought it was funny. So, *apparently*, she wasn't bothered by it.

I heard somewhere that Travolta has since sought out Menzel to apologize and she didn't seem bothered by it (did I just say that?? :D ).
