OT...Brit "Trade in Your Analog Set" Scheme Fails

"The radio audience ratings service RAJAR has published the first full quarter of figures since the launch of a DAB trade-in scheme called 'Radio Amnesty', fronted by ubiquitous luvvie Stephen Fry. The aim was to induce households to exchange their FM radios for a DAB radio. The result? DAB's share of digital listening has fallen for the first time."

Digital radio is a success everywhere. :D

And you should have heard all of the promotion that surrounded the trade-in scheme! Listening to UK radio, there were announcements about it in practically every spot break for a while there. That it has failed so miserably should tell you many things. One of which is that the lack of promotion/awareness isn't the problem.

BTW - digital radio is still far more successful and works far better (on a technical level) than our crappy hybrid IBOC system here. Yet it's still met with a big ho-hum from consumers across the pond. What does that tell you?

It tells me that the Brits need to stop cramming so many streams into any given DAB bouquet and downmixing them to mono yet! And they wonder why no-body listens to the Beeb in EU147......
