OT/TV: UPN/WB To Merge, Wither WBQC?

As reported all over by now, the UPN and WB TV networks are merging in the fall as "The CW Network".

Assuming what would appear to be obvious, that "The CW" will land in Cincinnati on Sinclair WB affiliate WSTR/64, could this be a fatal blow to the "big league" hopes of WBQC-LP/38, currently the market's LPTV UPN affiliate?

It would certainly, as far as I can see, kick it off Time Warner's local cable systems in its current prime-time only slot. Why would TWC carry WBQC in prime time without a network schedule?

Assuming also that WBQC tries hanging in there as an independent station, would that also mean the death of sister "The Other" (WOTH-LP 25)?

Discuss.

WBQC is carried 24/7 on a lot of cable systems in the outlining suburbs in the Greater Cincinnati Area currently. Mornings they are carrying The Daily Buzz, Entertainment with Byron Allen. Their daytime Lineup consists of Quincy Cosby show and Happy Days. In the evening, they Show Cops, & Texas Justice reruns. They probably will add a weeknight movie to fill the void left by UPN/CBS merger witch will make them an independent.

WBQC is in the process of adding a digital channel which is supposed to be more powerful than its medium powered analog Ch 38 which came on new years 2005. If they are unsuccessful finding a new digital channel they could hot switch to digital using its analog ch 38. They still are the only TV station not to have a digital allocation. WOTH-LP is basically a throw away channel showing Shop at Home most of the day so I see it going away when the switch to digital happens.

UPN 38 could join the "i" Network (old PAX Network) and with the possible new digital channel serve both Cincinnati/Dayton.

Going totally independent would be great if the programming was more varied and the re-runs not so outdated.

Elliott Block continues to re-invent that station. You have to hand it to him. The station web site looks great and he continues to air decent programming. If he doesn't get the "i" network, there's a station in Chicago I'd love him to copy. WCIU-TV Channel 26 is a full-time independent station. They also own a LPTV called ME-TV 23. They have an awesome lineup of really old shows. Check out the web site and schedule: http://www.wciu.com/whatsNewItem.asp?pub_id=810

Channel 26 in Chicago is at www.wciu.com

Channel 25 should go Spanish.

Channel 25 or 38 should pick up "Cops" every time Channel 19 decides not to show it. (Network shows can be picked up by other stations if the network's main affiliate refuses to show them.)
