I don't know the exact gird for all cable operators, but Time Warner should increase their coverage area nicely in the Akron market via Adelphia's eventual dispersal...

Of course, this isn't the first time local news has been dropped from TV-23 - the previous episode was far more dramatic. Remember that Paxson cancelled all news programming just DAYS after buying then-WAKC from ValueVison in 1996, firing everyone in the process. (Ironic in that ValueVison, despite being a home-shopping programmer, actually INCREASED news output on WAKC.)

WVPX probably is searcing for a new home as well. WKYC, by virtue of the LMA, had WVPX's master control run out of WKYC's Lakeside Ave. studio facility...

Oh, and one other change to WVPX: the Pax network will soon be re-branded as "i" - Oookay...

And as I note in the blog today, maybe WKYC and Adelphia can feed the cast to that system somehow on a temporary basis...between now and the merger being finalized. It's still an open question how TWC will treat the Adelphia lineup when it takes over, but I suspect they'll try to make the new newscast available to Akron area subscribers currently on Adelphia (pre-merger), if they don't make it available beforehand.

If I had to guess, TWC will standardize Bath, Copley and MAYBE the Adelphia Western Reserve systems on the current TWC Akron lineup. I'm not 100% sure they won't put those systems up in Macedonia up with Cleveland. The lineups won't be THAT different, though.

Have you ever watched a TV network in its death throes? It's so fun...
