OTA Digital Channels on your cable system....

Are they being carried? Are some cable companies more willing than others to carry the local "sub-channels". In Riverside, CA, Charter Cable carries ABC 7 Plus, Eyewittness News Now (also from ABC 7), and The Tube from KTLA (CW), and that's it! It seems Charter is kicking and screaming about carrying any more of these channels on their system here. I keep wondering why? PBS is offering two 24 hour channels, free to them, a local Ethnic UHF outlet is offering a 24-hour English-lanuage Anime Network, also free to them, ION is offering two networks of their own. I don't understan the hesitation. I guess Charter is just waiting for that mass flood of new shopping channels to start up ::)

In Rhode Island we get NBC Weather Plus via WJAR-DT2 and Pinpoint Weather via WNAC-DT2 on cox digital cable.

In Los Angeles, CA, on Time Warner Cable, we have KCBS-DT (CBS, Channel 402), KNBC-DT (NBC, Channel 404), KTLA-DT (CW, Channel 405), KABC-DT (ABC, Channel 407), KCAL-DT (Independent, Channel 409) KTTV-DT (Fox, Channel 411), KCET-DT (PBS, Channel 412).

Some sub-channels we have include The Tube (Channel 137), NBC WeatherPlus (Channel 225), KABC+ (Channel 227), KABC Weather Now (Channel 228), etc.

In Jackson, TN Charter carries the digital subchannel for WLJT PBS 11 in Lexington, TN, which is more PBS programming, but in a different order than the main channel except for during prime time when they're both the same. They also carry Telemundo, which is on a subchannel for WSMV NBC 4 in Nashville. Both these are carried in the Family tiers of digital channels.

Comcast of New Britain, CT carries the following:

WFSB-DT 3-1 Hartford (CBS)

WTNH-DT 8-1 New Haven (ABC)

WTXX-DT 20-1 Waterbury (CW)
WTXX-DT 20-2 Waterbury (The Tube)

WEDH-DT 24-1 Hartford (PBS) [CABLE ONLY]

WVIT-DT 30-1 New Britain (NBC)
WVIT-DT 30-2 New Britain (NBC Weather Plus)

WTIC-DT 61-1 Hartford (FOX)

The issue is probably space to carry the channels. Charter doesn't want to bump out any old (and popular, or shopping) channels to put in new ones.

Here in Seattle's Comcast system we get NBC Weather Plus, The Tube (from KMYQ), and a mess of KCTS subchannels. On occasion we also get KIRO's DT2 subchannel, but only when it has some programming worth something, like the NCAA Tournament.

Is it Telemundo Nashville, or are they carrying the national satellite feed? (I know some Charter systems are indeed carrying the local version, but the Telemundo on cable in Tullahoma is the national feed)

In some cases these subchannels are carried as the result of retransmission-consent negotiations. The station allows the cable system to carry their (more popular) main channel for no charge if they agree to carry the subchannel(s).

I forget which system in New York City I was watching on a recent trip, but the only OTA digital signals they carried were WRNN and WLNY. No subchannels of any other stations, not counting of course that WWOR is simulcast as a WNYW subchannel.

Whichever system this was, also did not carry NY1.

It's Telemundo Nashville. The main time I've watched it is when they're showing their version of Deal or No Deal (Vas O No Vas). ;D

Time Warner/Charlotte carries these subchannels on their digital service: WBTV/3/CBS--a weather channel and a "special events" channel, usually a simucast of their regular programing. WSOC/9/ABC--none now, a weather channel was recently dropped. WCCB---a weather channel. WNSC/30--none, though the South Carolina PBS station has 3 active digital subchannels. WCNC/36/NBC--a weather channel. WTVI/42/PBS---Their main analog channel in SD digital, plus 3 subchannels. WJZY/46/CW---main analog channel in SD digital. WMYT/55/MYT---main analog channel in SD digital. WUNG/58/PBS---main analog channel in SD digital, plus 3 addtional subchannels. WAXN/64/Action 64 none. All channels except WNSC and WAXN have their HD channels available as part of TW's HD service.

Comcast Boston carries the 3 sub channels of PBS station WGBX-44 on its basic digital tier. This PBS carries for 4SD channels. The other PBS in Boston carries PBS-HD.
