Other Paper To Cease Publication

Did the tweak the Wolfe's one too many times. So they bought it and killed it.

Seems very likely.

The Wolfes probably also resented the name "Other Paper," which was kind of a backhanded dig at the Dispatch.

This is unfortunate, because the OP was much more entertaining than Alive  The claim about "research" showing people prefer Alive to OP rings hollow.

The reason why "research" found people prefer Alive is most likely that you couldn't find The Other Paper since Dispatch bought it. How many places can you find Alive but not TOP? Most places only have Alive.

I personally found both of them readily but that very well could have been the exception to the rule.

Wonder why the Dispatch keep The Other Paper alive a year after they purchased it?

Don't know, but I'd note that after acquiring Columbus Monthly magazine Dispatch kept it pretty much the same for a good six months or more, before abruptly firing most of the writers, and replacing almost all the Columbus-focused slice-of-life essays, investigative articles, in-depth analyses, interviews etc. with almost 100% fluffy promotional pieces about food, drink, homes, etc.

One of The Other Paper's writers will be interviewing me tomorrow so that a slice of my life can be served up in one of its two remaining issues. Really looking forward to it! :)

Jake, this means WCRS-LP and your show called Yesterdays Top Secrets will be included in this article?

WCRS-LP was off the air yesterday, in case you weren't aware. Shared time WCRX-LP was also off the air this morning, the last I checked. The carrier was on but there was dead air on both stations.

Hi, Artie! Yeah, Wes Flexner just left after spending about an hour and a half with me, and he may be coming back again in a few days. We talked about all of my involvements with the music, from booking alternative bands into Mr. Brown's in early 1980, to serving as publisher and editor and contributor to The Offense (my music fanzine that lasted for just over 100 issues, from April of 1980 to July of 1989), to the better-known bands that I brought into places like the Newport and Stache's from '83 through '89, to yes, "Yesterday's Top Secrets" and its 397 episodes to date on WCRS. I don't know if he'll use it, but I was talking off the top of my head and I think one of the best things I said concerned visiting all of the lower-rated stations in town from 2000 to early 2008, as I met (or much more often unsuccessfully tried to meet) with PDs and/or GMs and/or anyone else in the building so that I could let them know what I wanted to do and why I thought it would help them. I told Wes, "I don't want to say that they were all idiots ... but they were all idiots!"

Spoken, of course by a programming "genius"...a legend...in his own mind!

Can't say I'm a genius, Jason, can't say I'm not. No one ever gave me an opportunity. And speaking of not being given things, wouldn't you at least agree that the people who couldn't give me five minutes of their time were idiots?

I don't know if you've ever listened to any of the 397 episodes of "Secrets", but I hope you'll read the article.

(Actually, due to the station's transmission problems this month, episode #400 won't be airing until Thursday, February 7 at the earliest.)

Jake,

We can't read this article anymore because The Other Paper website: http://theotherpaper.com/
now directs to Columbus Alive website.
Speaking of WCRS-LP, it appears they are finally getting the audio issues straightened out.

On another note, it also appears the Columbus Dispatch is seldom printing any local radio articles
anymore.

Well, everyone had two weeks to read it before the website shut down, so if they didn't then they only have themselves to blame! By the way, the 400th episode of "Secrets" streamed and aired this past Friday and can now be heard in the WCRS archives (http://wcrsfm.org/content/yesterdays-top-secrets-yts-400-feb8).

It's the opinion of many that with its new format, the Dispatch is now printing fewer articles about everything! But hey, it did have the CD102.5 reality TV show story a few days ago. Wow, and some people think I'M a bit full of myself -- what about this Malloy character?!?!!! ::)

They claim the total amount of content has not changed with the Dispatch's dinkification. It was kind of funny watching a woman at Giant Eagle trying to keep the mass of Sunday inserts -- which are still full size -- from falling out of the tiny folded newspaper holding them

The Dispatch seems to love to talk about Malloy. A few weeks ago he was featured in an article about renovating the Iuka ravine. But he still has a ways to go to match mentions of restauranteur Liz Lessner by the Dispatch.
