OTL LED retrofit beacons

That would be great if it is indeed a replacement for a 620 watt 130 volt bulb. From their rather sketchy info, it is hard to tell.

I have heard that LED's don't work out very well in lightning prone areas. Although I just relamped my tower, I'd sure like to cut the electric bill down to size....

Haven't tried this type.

Have had a beacon and side lamps made by Dialight for over ten years on a tower in an area where lightning is rare but when there is the odd storm it's extremely intense. No damge! Brightness seems unchanged (by comparison with another station's "just installed" new LED lights).

However, if you do go with LED be sure to get instructions on how to modify your lighting controller to report failures correctly. I had no trouble with the conversion; took about an hour in total. However, I have heard it said that some of the much older controllers cannot be modified so may need to be replaced.
