Our Poor 1190

Too bad Mike Shannon can't move his format to 1190 when his run ends on 1360.

Many People liked the Classic Oldies 1190 Was Playing.

Any back up, besides anecdeotal evidence, that 'many people' liked the oldies 1190 was playing? Because as John Summers points out in the post after yours, the BEST they ever did was a 1.2 in 2000. As he pointed out, almost a decade ago.

You would think that if 'many people' liked the format/music, you'd be able to point to good ratings that would be proof of that assertion.

Can you? Or is your 'many people' really based on 8 year old eveidence? Isn't that like saying many people like Young Country 105.3, which makes them one of the most popular country stations in town...

That ignores current reality, does it not?

In the interest of accuracy, the best 1190 fared in the ratings during its KLUV(AM) days was a 0.6 share (both 12+ and Persons 25-54) in the Summer 1999 book. KLUV(AM) did not meet minimum reporting standards after that and was not listed in any Arbitron ratings for the remainder of its existence. (The frequency did not show up again until the Summer 2006 book.)

So I guess it's just wild coincidence that while 'many people" liked the classic oldies 1190 played, not a single freaking one of them, during nearly a decade, got a diary...

They gave all the diaries away to minorities and 20-somethings :p If Arbitron can give minority formats a little boost in the ratings to make them look better to the "white" formatted stations, why not AM's too?

And I said this before - with all the programming and engineering resources Clear Channel has they could turn 1190 into a respectable station again.

Kangaroo Krap. First, diaries are not "given away" but sent to rather precisely recruited households in rather exact proportion to each person in the household's demographic presence in the market. If Spanish Domiant Hispanic Males 18-24 are 2% of the market, then 2% of the diaries will go to that group... and any under or over representation will be brought into proportion by weighting. Nobody is given a "boost" and they never have been.

P.S. Most Hispanics are classified by the Census as "white" so you could say that KLNO or KESS are "white" formatted stations.

I didn't say you said everyone. But you did say 'many', and now you're rephrasing that as 'a good number'. All I'm asking is if you have anything that actually backs up that assertion. The poster aboves asserts that they haven't shown up in the ratings for the ratings for almost a decade. I just find it odd that if 'many people' or even 'a good amount' of people liked it so much, why did none of them ever get a diary? it baffles the mind that that many people liked it, and NONE of them EVER got a diary?

More likely very few people knew about it (After all it's on AM, a dying spectrum (dying if you ignore the 2 top billing stations in this market, which is like ignoring an elephant in the room)) and even less liked it enough to stick around and listen for any length of time.

And I don't disagree that the oldies was better than CNN or even country, but that still doesn't address the fact that according to Arbitron (which unfortunately is the only way we can really judge objectively) they had 'no one' listening to them...

yea Little 1 i get what your Saying.

As far as Arbitron is concerned no one listened to it.
But I know quite a few people that did.
But U have to admit
Not many people care to get diaries.
