Our statement on Hy Lit not appearing on our show last night

As we said on the show last night (which is being replayed all weekend at www.radioracket.com) Hyski was not able to be on the show due to circumstances beyond our control, and out of respect to him, we cannot comment any further at this time. We hope to work it out and have him back in studio in the next couple of weeks.I can promise you that Hy didn't "flake" out on us. He was ready to go and in good shape physically. All of the problems stemmed from last evenings weather here in the Philadelphia area. There were tremendously bad thunderstorms, and unfortunately they interfered with our Internet service. The entire show was recorded even though it may not have gone out over the stream and is, again, being replayed all weekend.I know many people were disappointed that Hy was not on the program, but trust me, none more than the 3 of us in that studio last evening. We know we had maxxed out our server and received calls from people as far away as California inquiring about when the show would start. We pride ourselves in doing an entertaining show and having important and informative guests, and will continue to do so in the future. Please accept our apoligies for what happened last night. We know many people set aside the time to listen to the show, and we were not able to deliver what was promised. We are working on last night's issues and as soon as we have them worked out and get Hy rescheduled, we will let you all know! Please feel free to e-mail myself, George, or Roscoe with any of your questions, and thanks again for listening to the show.Kyle DeWittExecutive Producer"The Radio Racket"www.radioracket.comwww.audio18.come-mail: [email protected]

Unfortunately, Radio Racket was incapacitated, possibly due to inclement weather. This interview was scheduled as a courtesy to the producers of the said show, and was scheduled to broadcast 'Live', as a 'simulcast', over www.HyLitRadio.com. I personally, took the liberty of accommodating and establishing a custom network feed over the Hy Lit Servers for a 128k quality transmission broadcast, directly from their location to accommodate the agreement. As a result of the negative insinuation from the producers of the Radio Racket show, this interview will take place on www.HyLit.com exclusively, at a date to be announced. Their capacity, although limited, had no implication on the Hy Lit servers, which were up and running, and never lost capacity. However the problems origination emanated at their DSL interface, and, at the start of the show, they were offline entirely. Therefore, the show was unable to take place, live, from their location, as scheduled.Sam Lit,President/[email protected]

George Brusstar has been made aware of Sam's comments and is currently unavailable. George asked me to pass along that he will be making a statement on this message board later today.

Not Handled Well At All

With all due respect, a radio program that promised listeners "an uncensored insiders’ perspective, with no topics out of bounds ... unprecedented openness ... in a frank and candid way" did not deliver. I would like this effort to succeed. Something like this has long been needed. (Full Disclosure: I am acquainted with and have been in communication with one of the princpals for this program.) Some examination of this episode by the program staff is needed:To recap:
  • Friday night: The program did not stream (on either its own or Hy Lit's website) as scheduled. When the program does run later, the hosts make a somewhat cryptic announcement that the promoted interview with Hy Lit will not take place "due to circumstances beyond our control."
  • The next day, one of three in-studio hosts posts a statement saying "out of respect to (Hy Lit), we cannot comment any further at this time." This from a show that regularly skewers and even flames people in the biz.
  • Then Hy Lit's son posts a vague reference to "a negative insinuation from the producers of the Radio Racket show." A similar post on "the other" message board is headlined "Hy Lit did show up."
  • Another post from one of the hosts says the main host is "unavailable" but promises a full statement from him later in the day. Apparently the main host could be reached and so far it had not be necessary for this host - and only this host - personally to post comments. So far, the promised statement has not appeared.
  • Then one of the co-hosts posts on the show's own message board and says they have "smoothed over" things with the Lit camp and the interview has been rescheduled. Hy Lit's son also posts announcing a rescheduled interview.
Everything clear so far - not! This like when the CIA had analysts reading Pravada stories and trying to figure out what really happened. Why are all parties acting like they have something to hide or be embarassed about? OK, there was a storm Friday night. The equipment did not work. Hy Lit drove over there. The show could not go on as scheduled. Things got frantic. Maybe somebody lost it. C'mon, this is radio. This kind of sh__ happens. This is a radio show for people in radio. What about any of this has people tip-toeing around? The program frequently (maybe too frequently) focuses on behind-the-scenes problems and issues the hosts are encountering and have encountered. How the cancellation of the Hy Lit was handled was totally out of character for this show. What I'm also concerned about here is this program promises openness, frankness and candor but seems somewhat selective in how these qualities are applied. They have not been forth-coming about what happened to the promoted interview "out of respect" for Hy Lit. And the previous week the hosts said that before booking a former co-worker of two of the three hosts, they first checked with another friend for whom the former co-worker had also once worked briefly. This suggests a certain deference to "friends," while it is open season on others the hosts don't like or those they consider "characters." I respectfully suggest that to establish and maintain credibility in the local radio community, this program must be completely even-handed in its selection of topics and its comments. It can not show any personal favoritism. It can't be about grinding anyone's personal axe or about anyone's personal history. The same standards - and the same degree of respect - must apply to coverage of Hy Lit as to the hosts' former PD.
