Misinformation alert:
Black radio has always dominated Atlanta. V103 has been a powerhouse for over twenty years.
On the other hand, there wasn't even a High Density Hispanic zip code in Atlanta until 1996.
Sure, they were here, but hiding from the head counters for the usual reasons.
When Arbitron changed the equation, they reduced the number of non-minority diaries. The ratings for many stations have never been the same. By the way, Rock stations (mostly white listeners) kick butt in PPM. Arbitron has a number of lies to share why, but the real reason is that it's kinda cool to wear the "metal" black thing on your hip but oh so uncool to fill out a diary.
Arbitron is evil. They cranked their rates up 65% this year, costing hundreds of radio pros their jobs while providing a smaller sample and a horrible product. Not surprisingly, women don't want to wear a "metal" black thing on their bodies and would rather fill out a diary. Also, read the story today (in another radio trade) about how two NYC stations have shown up in Atlanta Arb reports with over 30,000 listeners. I'm not making this up... They blow.
