"...our viewers in the West"

Is the West Coast version of "CBS This Morning" Opening pretaped with the emphasis on "Good Morning to our viewers in the West", then the original East Coast taped delayed show is shown?

GMA tend to do this lots of the time. I know CBS This morning whenever there is breaking news Scott Pelley or the CBS Evening News weekend staff or if its a local breaking news in San Francisco the CBS5 Crew will will jump in and pre-empt the morning staff on the West Coast.

Pay attention to the live shots, especially at the top of the 7 AM hour.

If the font up in the corner says "Live PDT" then it's a new piece for the
left coast feed. If the font says "Live EDT," you're screwed (you're getting
a three hour old live shot).

Then there's the left coast repeat of Wake Up With Crap on the WX Channel...

Networks don"t "tape" delay any more...it's all done by servers. :D Segments and hours can be reedited and refiled for later playout...or just kept the same if there are no urgent news updates.

In the Central CBS this morning is Live but on East Coast it should be to just start at 8am so then no need for tape delay.

I don't think so. The morning yakkers airing 7-9 AM in each time zone are live only
in the Eastern time zone. Central is on a one-hour delay (unless the particular CT
market runs it from 6-8).

The networks are not going to mess with their "east coast centric" policy by kissing
off the 7 AM hour on the east coast.

Although I do wonder if they ever do any live updates for the Central time zone, as
is at times done for Pacific.

They can start it at 8am on East Coast because their Studio's are all in New York that's on the East Coast or move their Studio's to Chicago or Kc or better yet to Orlando.

It baffles me that in this day and age of cable news and Internet instant gratification, any network news is delayed on the west coast. One would think that if not the morning shows, at least the three evening news shows would have long since switched to doing a west coast edition... every night, not just when major breaking news happens.

I remember ABC experimented with this during the short-lived Woodruff/Vargas era. I wonder why it didn't last.

The networks are NOT going to start their morning shows at 8 AM ET.

The 7-8 AM ET hour is too valuable to them to blow off. They're east coast centric
and nothing's going to make them change that. No matter where the broadcast
originates from.

Add up the population in the Eastern time zone, and compare that to CT or MT or PT.
It's a no brainer.

Okay then in Central time Local Stations need to move back Local Newscast an hour so like the Today show can be live at 6am Central/7am Eastern. Most local Stations in Central Time zone also have CW or My Network TV to so they can put a 6am Live Newscast on it.

Probably not going to happen. The networks are apparently in love with the idea of their
morning shows airing 7-9 AM in each time zone. And the affiliates wouldn't like the idea
of giving up their local news in the 6 AM hour.

Are there any CT affiliates (most likely CBS) that still run the network show 6-8 AM CT?

I believe the user was referring to "Wake Up with Al" on the Weather Channel. As for the question about network affiliates in the Central time zone that broadcast a network news program between 6:00 a.m and 8:00 a.m, WKRG-TV in Mobile, Alabama usually broadcasts "CBS This Morning" between those times on Saturday.

On CBS This Morning, you really don't have to look that closely. If the reports are updated for the West, the reporter will say something like "Good morning and good morning to our viewers in the West" before starting their reports. CBS has been very particular about the reporters acknowledging the viewers in the West.

OTOH, on Today and GMA, you do need to look for the "Live PDT" banner. Today usually has a special opening where Matt and Savannah say "Good Morning, it's 7am Pacific Time!"

Then, in Phoenix during the Winter when we are on the dreaded MST, you get virtually NO updates unless California is falling off into the Pacific Ocean. ::) You just deal with two hour old news unless you watch the local Fox AZ Mornign or Good Morning Arizona (on our independent Channel 3) or CNN/MSNBC/FNC.

You might have other Local newscast on from 7am to 9am on like CW or My Network TV or even a 24/7 Local News Channel. Sportscenter's Live at 9m.

Just how much do American viewers outside of the Eastern time zone care about the network morning shows anyway? I seem to remember years ago reading that KTLA Morning News was beating the big 3 network morning shows, and I won't be surprised if KTLA (or KTTV) is still on top. For that matter, I won't be surprised if that's also the case in other non-ET markets with a live local morning show on the Fox or CW station.

I ask this because Canadians apparently could not care less about Canada AM.

Well, in the West, we are used to getting hours-old national/world news. That's just how it works. At first, CNN did special newscasts for the West. Now, we just get endless repeats of hours-old Anderson Cooper on weeknights. We're used to being ignored out here...except for videos of chase scenes from LA bank robberies. :D

I do know in San Francisco KTVU News has Mornings on 2 since 1990 or 1991 to compete against the Network Morning shows. I think KTLA Morning News was born around 1990 or 1991 too around the same time that KTVU 7am news was born. I know in both cases it took a local disaster that took place in the 7am hour to beat the network shows.
