Out in Burlington

JJ Prieve has left the WWMP, WLFE, etc building due to "philosophical differences." Go figure. Looks like, for the time being at least, their Wyoming PD will oversee Vermont.

Serious question: Why would anybody take a job in that company? Are people really that desperate for radio jobs that they'll run a cluster of irrelevant stations for peanuts?

uhhh...for the passion they have for the industry...for the love of radio...to not be working a "real" job...because they can get the job (for as much as you spout off here about how bad of a job it is, I'm willing to bet it's over your head). Seriously, who are YOU to judge what job anyone else will take or won't. And before you ask, no I am not applying for it, nor do I wish to leave my current gig...but as a radio professional (just like you Will...oh...never mind), I wish whoever takes the job luck and say congrats.

Over my head? Are you serious? They're all jukeboxes.

And yes, I understand the "passion of radio" argument. There's a difference between having a passionate job at a company where the owner isn't a prick, and a job at a company where the owner is a prick. The latter appears to be the case here, otherwise these "passionate" people would stick around for a while.

My job = just like radio, but 50% more pay for half the work.

And I would bet that's a bet you'd lose.

Jukebox jobs aren't worth spit, and don't require anything other than adequate, perhaps even rudimentary radio skills. Our friend Will long ago demonstrated he has a lot more on the ball than that.

YOUR friend Will, not mine. From what I've read of Will's posts, I still stick by my comments and would play the odds. Regardless, call me crazy, but I just have respect for ANYONE in the industry who is working hard and being true to themselves, including the person with the rudimentary radio skills you speak of to run the stations in question. Are there situations that I would advise friends to be leery of, sure. Would I come on here and rip someone for taking a job? Of course not.

I am glad you are making 50% more money for half the work, Will. I'm glad I won't have to deal with your attitude at any station I work for now or in the future, especially with the ever-articulate use of the word "prick".

I really like rock 102. some skiiers actually listen up a JAY peak. I thought JJ owned it?

I've been away from Burlington but continue to follow the radio scene....to the point about why anyone would want to work for that company, many good people believed going in that all the negative stories wouldn't apply to them (like that's an original thought in our business) whether in programming or sales, only to experience the ineptness and arrogance of ownership which still believes that ten un-nanounced walk in sales calls a day is a way to sell advertising. I personally dislike the jack format, can't honestly compare it to programming an AC, CHR or AAA (e.g. Zeb Norris who is very solid in this area), but for what little support was provided, JJ did a creditable job.

Many of us stay in media because we love the vibe, maybe generating results for the station advertisers, and unfortunately too many talented people from all departments get let go due to the corporate entities who decide hundreds of miles away they can get by with automation or younger, less expensive, supposedly more hungry managers. But we perservere because maybe we love what we do.

Like others who have left the company, JJ will most likely do OK for himself.
