Vicki McKenna -- "a voice of reason in a city of chaos" -- really likes that city, which is, of course, Madison.
McKenna, the host of "Upfront" on WIBA radio, says it's more fun doing her conservative talk show in a liberal town.
"I've always had this kind of appreciation for the underdog," she said in a leisurely interview last week. "I think it has a chance to have more impact because of the nature of Madison." ...

Who is she? WIBA-AM's afternoon talk radio host
Hangout of choice: Great Dane Brew Pub, Fitchburg (She can smoke there)
Her drink: Great Dane Oatmeal Stout (There was no Coors Light)
Last year was a good one for Vicki McKenna. It was her first full year being the host of her own, four-hour show, "Upfront with Vicki McKenna," on WIBA-AM 1310. (Previously she had been paired with a liberal partner.) McKenna was instrumental in the defeat of the Madison school funding referendums last spring. In recent debates, she's been a strident voice supporting concealed-carry gun legislation and opposing Madison's smoking ban.
Her outspoken conservative viewpoints are decidedly in the minority in Madison. She enters the Great Dane and lights a cigarette, knowing she's going to have to explain how a brash Republican woman ended up on top of local talk radio after being fired from her first radio job in this market. ...
