Outdated logos & worse...

It happens to every radio station no matter how careful the promotions and programming teams are: the outdated logo. Maybe it is given to the promoter from the sales person or, in the case of a annual event, reused from the camera-ready art of last year.

Case in point: I'm paying for my Subway sandwich order and see a promotion for the 2006 Long Island Auto Show. $2.00 off the ticket price. Now, I love a good car show and while I've seen Tony Stewart's #20 Pontiac up close before (and not the promo/photo car) that will be at the Coliseum Oct 20-23...I figure I'll grab a couple.

Then I flipped the pass over and saw the Newsday logo and three radio station logos - WBAB (current), a very old B103 logo with "Buzzy Bee" in a letter sweater that the station stopped using years ago and the grand prize: the WLIR 92.7 logo with the pink triangle.

Now I really have to wonder who is promoting this show?

Do they still have the Bee at remotes? Let me tell you, I do *not* miss being in that Bee-Suit I was running around in 10 years ago..!<P ID="signature">______________

As a Promotion Director, there is nothing that makes me crazier than someone using an old logo, even though I've sent the new one 500 times and have asked them to delete, burn, or destroy the old one.

Nothing kills me more than old logos at a radio station... When I was at WHYN in Sprinfield, the station image changed from 93 WHYN to The Mix 93.1 but our sales people where still using the old logo in sales presentations. But it was also hard to expain in a press release what the name of your station is now.

Now at WLNG, we haven't changed our logo too much but I have made sure it is available very easily to the sales staff and clients we work with. The best thing was to put a PDF of our logo on our website and give the URL out to our sales people to pass along.

But also promotional agreements sometimes work through the sales person along with a flight purchase. Lots of times the logo is on file year ofter year and no one checks to see what the current logo is.

Make an agreement to co-promote but then the station changes its image or format.

Its an easy thing to ask and check out but no one thinks of it.
