Outer Banks

There is a Format Change on 92.3 WZPR but thats it

Outer Banks, NC, 3/13/08: CapSan Media has launched the first full time sports radio outlet on the Outer Banks, on 92.3 FM. ESPN Radio began being broadcast on the frequency as of 7am, Thursday March 13th.

Regarding the new format, Program Director Matt Cooper said “We looked very carefully at finding something that fills a void on the local airwaves. We think the Outer Banks is an area that will embrace the exciting and dynamic programming of ESPN Radio.” 92.3 formerly broadcasted country music as part of the Wilbur 92.3-Orville 97.1 simulcast. Country music will continue to be heard on the 97.1 frequency. Regarding the launch of ESPN Radio 92.3, CapSan Media CEO Bill Whitlow said “In today’s world of increasing media fragmentation, it is becoming more difficult for advertisers to spend their media budgets wisely. We believe this station will offer advertisers targeting active, affluent men a very direct path to their desired customers.” Local market mainstay Hunt Thomas will serve as the Local Sports Director and Assistant Program Director Jeff White will cover regional sports action.

CapSan Media, lead by Bill Whitlow and Jason Baker, owns and operates 4 radio stations serving Northeastern North Carolina: 99.1 The Sound WVOD, Classic Hits 104.9 WFMZ, Country 97.1 WYND and ESPN Radio 92.3 WZPR.

East Carolina Radio which is owned by Rick Loesch and his sister seem to be having problems in house. I programmed Dixie 105.7 in Nags Head and 5 months is all I could stand. I was hired by market vet Tom Charity who at the time was ECR's OM. A week later they made Tom sales manager and moved Cliff Olds (Cuervo Curtis) to OM. Charity is a great guy and a real radioman. Most of the other folks at ECR , well nevermind. CapSan and Max Media need not worry about Dixie or any other ECRI stations. Ray Turner former Dixie PD seems to be doing well over at Water Country. Good Luck Ray.
