OutFoxed in Rutland?

>> no sooner was the ink dry on Electromagnetic’s acquisition of WEXP (101.5 Brandon) than the Rutland-market station was on the move again. There’s no wondering what the new ownership has in mind: Ken Squier’s Radio Vermont (doing business here as “Woodchuck Radio LLC”) is paying $475,000 to expand the reach of flagship WDEV (550 Waterbury) south into Rutland.

So an end to the Fox (classic rock/Patriots games)? Sounds like the 550/96.1 will // there...and Scott wonders if maybe they could expand 'DEV further if they can buy WTHK 100.7 Wilmington VT, if they plan to make 'DEV a statewide voice

Several years ago I managed WEXP. Had family issues not taken me away perhaps I would still be there today. That gig got me back home and I loved every minute. Ken Barlow and Jeff Shapiro built a solid station and branded it well.

This is a real good move by Ken Squier. Radio Vermont Group despite the Sugarbush FM is essentially Radio Northern Vermont. With 'EXP he adds Rutland County and most of Addison. Would he want 100.7 licensed to Wilmington? There used to be a Stratton Mt translator for 101.5 as well. The Wilmington facility is atop Mt Snow but it overshoots Brattleboro and is rather spotty in Bennington. Not sure how much they add to the equation--except in the winter there is some good bar business down there.

This acquisition should help 'DEV with regional business and make the cluster more valuable for existing advertisers.

It’s too bad they can’t get their hands on one of the stations that transmits from Killington. Now that would be a major expansion of their coverage!
