Outlaw Dave?

I don't understand this thread... You are talking about a guy who calls himself OUTLAW Dave. Not WELL BEHAVED Dave or GUY NEXT DOOR Dave. Rock 101 was all about bikes, beers, bimbos and rock n' roll. To be a well behaved rock-jock is lame. Why would you expect anything else? On a personal note, Dave and I have run into each other several times over the years and he's always been friendly. Like Dave I have also been accused of being a jerk and at times I guess we all can be. It may be hard to believe but most jocks are introverted and more comfortable behind the mic than in front of people who want to talk about something that was said on the air last month.

The difference is between how a jock comes across ON-AIR with his "persona" and how he is with his CO-WORKERS. Being "OUTLAW DAVE" on-air is fine with me; because the way he treats his co-workers, though, he should be called "JERKY DAVE".

Sorry you can't understand the thread, Dave E. Crockett, but, shouldn't you be down at the Alamo shooting at Mexicans or something? Santa Ana's troops are crossing the river and heading this way. ;)

I can see your point about how a person treats his co-workers. It's not cool to be a jerk to anyone. Whick brings me to you comment at the end of your post. Somebody might think you were being a jerk rather than trying to be amusing. Leave the jokes to the professionals.

Well, golly gee, Jethro; no one will ever accuse you of being amusing. Couldn't you have come up with a more original airname, btw? Thanks...

Having "worked" with Outlaw Dave, I don't care whether he re-surfaces at another station or from the middle of Buffalo Bayou, the man is the same: a human scum-bag toward others.

He treats his co-workers like trash and has an ego that is, shall we say, over-sized for his particular skill-set.

Those who mourn his departure from current Houston radio have never, obviously, had to work with this cretin; those of us who have endured his toxic temper-tantrums on an almost daily basis empathize with his future fellow employees.

Condolences to whoever hires him. :-[

You left out lying, cheating, selfish, antisemitic, uncaring, manipulative, mean, racist, cold-hearted, and a few others I can't say here. Just my opinion. BTW, would someone pull Outhouse Dave's knife out of my back?

Hey Anahadwolves... Why are you making this a personal attack on me? Can we expect that sort of thing from you everytime somebody offers another point of view that differs from yours? Too much of that here already. As far as my choice in airnames: Mine makes perfect sence in Houston TEXAS. I doubt you'll ever forget me becasue my name is memorable thanks to the history of the Alamo. Marketing is part of the job BTW.

Relax a little bit Ana. Don't be hatin'.

Dave, where are you on the air? No offense, but I've heard of the real Dave.. but never (outside of this board) of you. I'm not even attacking you, I've just never heard you in my scanning of the dial.

If memory serves, and it's the same Dave E. He was the morning guy on 93Q Country back in the early 90's with Pam Ivey.

I did the morning show at KKBQ from 1992 until 1998 and finished my run at the station in 2000. I went to Baton Rouge to work out my con-compete and came back to do afternoon at KIKK with Kat. After that gig I did some work at KHMX and later at KLDE. I now host my own internet radio station at www.dxsradio.com. I'm on live from 9a-1p weekdays. Tune in.

Just listening to him on the radio, he sounded like a pervert. With having all the girls in the studio stripping and other things. Wonder if he got fired for sexual harassment???

Funny, I did Houston drivetime raydeoh for seven years...and, I never heard of you. Hope you have a bigger audience on-line. ;)

Internet is not regulated by FCC rules. Dave is down to earth and says things frankly. The only reason he wasn't number one was because he was up against the heritage Hudson & Harrigan Show on KILT, where I was their producer. His numbers were always strong. He drove the 1st nail in KIKK's coffin and took 93Q to second place. In certain demos, he was number 1. He has my respect.

Hmmm must have been doing drivetime in your dreams or on drugs....I dont listen to country and I heard of Dave....(have a good story about Pam too ;) Of course knowing one of his news folks (Alan "Justice" Linder) didnt hurt...but I still didnt listen to country.....but Dave Crockett? AHH you evidently didnt watch the TV spots either...wanna try again?

De De Dee

Not like anyone cares but I was back stage at the mentioned Van Halen concert with Outlaw Dave. Obviously you are not from here or a listener of Dave's because then you would know he would never drink a Coors Light..... BUDWEISER is his brand (oh and by the way, he is NOT a puker either).

It's easy to let yourself get insulated, where all you focus on is your own show and the jocks at your own station. If left to my own habits and obsessions, I would never listen anywhere else, but it's important to twirl the dial every once in awhile and see what else is being offered around town. I do understand that, "I couldn't tell you who the other guys are or what they're doing" thing, though; I came from the school of thought where you act like the other guys don't exist and focus on bringing your own A game. Or, as a past PD of mine used to say, "What other station? There IS no other station." While that's all well and good, it's important to remember that there are, in reality, other stations... ;) Can't imagine anybody not having heard of Dave E., though. Wow, that's some focus!

"Con-Compete", LOL ;D I hope the dxsradio thing is going well for you Dave. As far as Outlaw Dave goes. I think KIOL needs a fresh approach. They tried to resurrect KLOL, which was plummeting in the ratings. The music and imaging is very weak on KIOL. You couple that with the signal, and it is just a bad mix all the way around. These days, they are just slightly harder than KKRW, and that's not saying much. The station should evolve into Active Rock, or just go another direction all together. I don't know Outlaw Dave personally, so I can't judge his character. I do know he is a decent jock, and should land on his feet somewhere.

This is a very sad thread. I have listened to both gentlemen named Dave for quite a few years. Both are very good at their hitting their target. Albiet they have very different targets.

Guess it's time to tighten up SurfControl.

Dave is a good announcer, better than most of you that frequent this board. Nothing particularly interesting or insightful to say but he did cut through to some. Thats a better career, in radio, than most of us/you can expect. I remember him almost crying with anger at the Limp Bizkit show when Whip was picking on him on the air. He'd a killed Whip. Good times.
When I went to work over at CC Dave rememembered me from the mid-80s...I was Creative Director at KFMK, and he was an intern...I didn't make the connection that it was the same guy. Anyway, he asked me "do you remember the what you told me when I asked you for advice?" I said "Probably the same thing I tell every young person who asks me for radio advice -- get out while you can!" To which he replied "Yep...that was what you told me." He continued "You were obviously wrong." To which I replied "Hell no! That you have a nice following is great, but you should still get out before you are too old!";D
