This sitcom had its premiere last night but did only "OK" in the opinion of audience counters. Given the written reviews of the show I didn't expect it to do well and it didn't disappoint. Totally unrealistic situations. Old, stale jokes. Actor's cues seemed a click off. Made it through about 10 minutes and hit the off switch. Won't be back. I'm guessing the only positive was that it had Last Man Standing as a lead-in but even LMS wasn't that good either. This most half-season has fallen right off a cliff. It's not a surprise to me that both sitcoms are now on Fox which has become the bottom of the barrel network.

'Outmatched' Surprises

Not sure what that means. It came in a close second in its slot:

It means it didn't do as well as it was expected to. I read several reviews (which were published prior to the premiere) and they were not good so I don't know what the reviewers who watched the premiere were expecting. Based on the trailers I wasn't expecting much.....and that's pretty much what the show delivered.
I did that once. Whatever show it was didn't last.
I thought I was going to do the same thing this time but I kept going and was rewarded. Not because it's any good, but because I like seeing the parents frustrated by not being as smart as their kids. Plus the mom is pretty. I've liked her in other shows.
But I don't like the kids, except for the one who isn't a genius.
This show seems to have a similar premise as does Young Sheldon. I didn't like 'old' Sheldon but did try watching the spin off. It was much better than I expected but still not my cup of tea so I am not a fan. I do, however, understand why other people like it.
Not so with Outmatched. Same old "dumb parents" jokes, setups, outcomes that have been done hundreds of times in shows and sketches since TV was new.
I'm now guessing it got the time slot so that the "high priced" and externally produced Last Man Standing can be dropped at the end of season 8.
"Young Sheldon" is very different. Two normal kids and one genius, played by a very talented actor. In fact, they're all talented actors. And there is great writing too.
Ratings look pretty normal for modern times, especially when considering Last Man Standing ratings before it. It is probably about what the network expected. Have it on my DVR, haven't had a chance to watch it yet to judge for myself on how good or bad it is.
Missed it Thursday but watched the encore airing of the pilot last night. It was pretty good. I especially liked the ending.
This show is actually good. I don't know if it's that I don't have standards or they finally came up with a good plot line.
Okay but let's be real here; every new show debut comes with a lot of hype and expectations, whether generated by the production company, or the network Promotions dept. If the show held a number two next to an incumbent one, then that's not a bad launch.
Just because it's not your cup of tea, doesn't mean everyone is of the same mind. Just the fact you didn't care for the most watched sitcom of our generation, The Big Bang Theory, says your personal taste may not align with the majority of viewers anyway.

You have not understood my posts regarding BBT. I was a fan of the show it's first few years. It then deteriorated as the story lines wrapped around the silliness of Jim Parsons and the addition of a couple of characters which didn't add much to the show. Much the same thing has happened to Last Man Standing which started off great but cast turnovers made the show less and less watchable. Both these shows are now off my must see list.
I haven't watched all seasons of Big Bang Theory, but that is an unfortunate pattern with sitcoms. They tend to be better in the early years before the writers cement themselves into character stereotypes.
For instance, Happy Days was much better in the earlier seasons, before they turned Fonzie into a god and made Potsie really stupid.
Family Ties was much better in the earlier seasons, before they turned Mallory into an idiot and Stephen into a stereotype of a stupid father.
Good Times with JJ is probably the most extreme example, as you had the character of his father die because of how the actor felt about it.
The only sitcom that never fell off the tracks (IMHO) was "The Honeymooners".
"Happy Days" appealed to me because I lived through those years as a teen. The movie from which it was taken "American Graffiti" is one of my all time favs but the sitcom never did live up to its heritage and each season seemed sillier than the previous.
I never watched Family Ties or Good Times so can't comment on them.
In case it hasn't been said, while they kept Jim Parsons silly, he improved gradually and in the finale he redeemed himself in his Nobel Prize speech.
