"OUTTA HEEEERE!!" AS MY IDOL HARRY WOULD HAVE SAID...

Had to invoke the memory of Harry Kalas, the late Phillies broadcaster. Couldn't resist!

But, as he used to say on homers, "outta here" describes me next week. I will be enroute to Levittown, PA (just north of Philly) to join my sister and help her care for our ailing Mom. The stay could be from anywhere from a few weeks to finding myself buried next to Kalas one day. I leave Tulsa hoping to come back...but the future is uncertain.

What memories and people this city has put into my soul after all these years! This will be a hard separation, but being a half hour away from Citizens Bank Park may help ease the pain (eat your heart out, Steve Smith!).

I use this forum to announce this because it's the best way to say "bye" to many great radio people I've had the honor of knowing and working with. My departing prayer is for all of us never to forget the special craft we've devoted our lives to...and that all of us may one day be able to sharpen our skills wherever and whenever we want to! I would also ask you pray for my journey to be safe and trouble free and to face my new responsibility with optimism and perseverance. Mom's erosion (at 88) is mostly mental...that's a tough situation about which I must learn much quickly. In the final analysis, a woman who, widowed when I was six, raised me and my bro and sis at a time when single motherhood was in many ways tougher than it is now deserves the devotion Patty and I will provide. It's my turn to step up in adverse circumstances...my prayer for me is that I'm up to the calling!

God bless ALL of you! And you better believe I'll try to mp3 my way into a station in Philly, Trenton, NJ or Wilmington, DE. Rest assured, also, I'll be keeping up on what's cookin' in Tulsa radio on a regular basis.

I've had the pleasure to work with you in the past. You're a great radio talent, you're welcome in T-town any day. What a great thing you are doing...family is everything!! We'll miss ya Coop.

Bob, best of luck, brother. You are the best, so the luck should naturally follow.

Hurry back!

We'll be praying for you and your mom, and looking forward to your golden tones being heard on the Tulsa airwaves again soon. :)

Coop,

After losing my Mom in December to similar circumstances, I can offer some heartfelt advice. Spend as much time with her as possible. Tell her the things you never got a chance to say. Talk to her, she'll still hear you, and she will know you are there. Tell her some "remember whens" ... stories when you were growing up; the fun stories. She'll appreciate them. And most important, tell her you love her Every Single Time.

Bless you and your family. I know how you feel.

Respectfully,

Dick Loftin

Vaya con Dios, amigo. You'll be in my prayers.

Mr. Cooper,

Praying for safe travels and may the good Lord bless you and your family. It has been an honor to work with you! I want to thank you for the help and education, some of which I can actually use/say on-air without FCC fines. ;D

Buon viaggio, my friend!

Chuck
