Ed names a station in honor of the 'bone...

(From the Albany Times-Union)

Galaxy stations WRCZ (94.5 FM) and New Eagle Classic County station WEGQ (93.7 FM) go simulcast with a new ``broad rock'' format under a new tagline: The Bone. (The target demo is guys, wink-wink-nudge-nudge.)

Galaxy Communications officials announced the changes Wednesday afternoon.

The simulcast Galaxy stations will program a classic rock format predominantly rooted in the 1990s (think Nirvana rather than Van Halen).

``This station will not be so easy to define,'' said Galaxy President Ed Levine. ``It's going to play everything that rocks.'' (Which, conveniently, is the station's slogan.)

Ed might have substituted the word "define" with "sell."</font>

Boning Up

So, the Hudson Valley is going to get a "Jack" station rooted in the '90s instead of the '80s.

Does that make Albany "New Jack City"?

Sounds like a Modern Rock/Active Rock hybrid - two formats that are not doing well nationally at the moment.

Yes. It's True. The Bone is named for me.

Ed brought me into his office late last year and was praising me for my abilities and suggested that instead of giving me more money, he'd do something that happens very rarely, if not at all, and that is to have a station named after me. Obviously, I was humbled, and, to be completely frank, when he told me, I sat down and had a good cry of joy. In less than 2 years, I have been able to put K-Rock in a great competitive position. 95X and The Dawg now bow down to my greatness as most of the rock stations in this region should.

It is truly an honor, but then again, this is the kind of honor that result because of passion, hard work and major league smarts. You don't see a station named Alexis 95.7 or Scorch 105 or Mitchell 101 and you know why, because they would suck. For instance ...

Alexis 95.7 would be a station of nothing teary eyed whiner songs.

Scorch 105 would be a station made up of 1 hit wonders and drug songs.

Mitchell 101 would be a station dedicated to yanni and john tesh songs, the most boring music on God's green earth.

Not, like My Station ... The BONE! ... a big fat rock station with power on it's stick. Just like me, a big fat rocker with power on my stick.

How many stations are named for a successful intelligent handsome and humble programmer? 1 ... And it's because I'm just that great. Ed made the right decision, and you know why, because I'm better and smarter than everyone in this city ... and now, it's time to RECOGNIZE! Look for The Bone! to be as successful and as powerful as the person it's named for.

Now, you can all praise me. You know you want to.

How fitting. That's something Ed knows well...how to 'bone' his employees.

BONE is just the beginning

Scott, I hate to break this to you, but you've been had.

I talked to Ed a few weeks ago, and he gave me the real background on the new BONE format. Ed figured that you'd be stoked by having a format named BONE on the Albany stations. He also figured that it would be cheaper to stroke your ego than to give you a raise.

But, the real truth - if you can believe ANYTHING that ANYBODY who's currently in radio says - is this:

The BONE format is just the roll-out of a new format inspired by an expert radio guy who Ed has been consulting with for months now to develop an awesome new listening experience that will start in the Northeast, then sweep the country.

Here's what BONE really stands for:

Sorry, Scott, but I couldn't stand to see you lied to and deceived any longer.

God, I'm glad I started this thread! A set-up for some humor from the 'bone and responses from two of Radio-Info's more thoughtful and informed posters, Sir Roxalot and Mr. Paintswell.

Thanks, guys!

Re: Yes. It's True. The Bone is named for me.

If you want to succeed in Albany, you need to settle on a format for more that 6 months. The Bone is just the new name for a really bad station. What have you been doing for the past 2 years?

Gold.

Pure. Comedy. Gold.

Your friend forever,
Biggus Dickus

This is how it's done.

Bad: "You suck!" "No, you suck!"

Good: Saying the same thing, but with a little style.

There are times I just shake my head in wonder that you're able to work for Ed.

Whitey, what are you doing trolling and stirring-up the 'Cuse board? Was Buffalo-Rochester getting too tame?

;)

Beating a dead horse...

...till its just a greasy smear on the ground.

> Yeah, but Brian Ocean South East ain't gonna fly...

Brian Ocean North East Radio- BONER?

Brian Ocean North East The Hit Internet Station- BONE THIS?

Digital Entertainment Media Brian Ocean North East Station- DEM BONES?

Brian Ocean Network Digital Adult Gender Entertainment- BONDAGE?

Your friend forever,
Biggus Dickus

Amazing that they never thought of this simulcast, four years ago, when they entered the market. Still, they now have the problem that they are essentially a Classic Rock station, going up against WPYX, and WQBK/WQBJ, and both of these stations, have very good coverage, vs Galaxy\'s two flea power Class A signals.

At some point, someone is going to cave.... I doubt that it will be PYX or QBK.
