Over the Air Signal Intereference from Cable TV

This is slightly in relation to the cable interference topic, but what can a person do to prevent a cable television service from bleeding over onto someone's tower-mounted over-the-air antenna? I don't have cable (I have satellite without locals) and getting over the air VHF signals is my only means of recieving network television. The UHF band is free of interference. What can I do to stop the interference? I contacted the cable company, and they told me, pretty much, that nothing could be done. I'm almost certain that's a lie. Isn't a cable leakage to the point where over the air signals get affected a FCC violation?

Just in case you were wondering, this is a recent issue...started occurring within the past three or four months. Beforehand, everything was a-okay with reception.
