Overnight America is back?

I tuned into WCRN-AM 830 this morning just before 5 and Overnight America with Jon Grayson was finishing up.

I tuned them in Wednesday morning and they had Red Eye Radio on during the 4 a.m. hour. So did they bring back OA or was I hearing things? ;) I would think a change in the middle of the week is unusual but not out of the question.

Perhaps Jon will chime in and confirm this for us. When WCRN first added them, he replied to the post about WCRN adding his program.

I hope it's back on WCRN but until further notice will be listening to it out of Baltimore on WBAL. R.E.R. is just plain AWFUL!

I listen each night on KDKA partly because they run Jim Bohannon before OA. I am often confused in the morning when I wake up to the forecast for the Pittsburgh area. BTW KDKA has a very good morning show. I wish we had something comparable in Boston.

I listen online. It is one of the few stations that doesn't time out. I can sign on at midnight and it is still on at 7am.

Nope, you weren’t hearing things! ;)
I thought I heard R-E-R (which, actually, I don’t mind) in the 2am hour, but OA was definitely on in the 4am hour.
BUT, it could have been just a feed screw up, which I have noted in the past. ::)
We’ll have to evaluate the situation tonight, I guess! 8)

Red Eye Radio pales in comparison to the McIntyre version, but it's OK if you have an alternative to flip over to when they have the guy on pimping for his truck lube company.

Red Eye Radio was back on in the 4 a.m. hour this morning. As pointed out, most likely a screw-up with the feed yesterday morning. Too bad, I was hoping OA was back!

I agree!
I also agree. Don't even try calling them a second time. God Forbid if you call three weeks later.
They will not!!!!!
They will not let the caller through

Although I do not like RER, not letting your call through again (even 3 weeks later) is not necessarily a bad idea. Perhaps if more radio shows adopted a more stringent policy on the frequent callers, we would rid ourselves of the "celebrity" callers.

I agree. I think that is one of the reasons I like John Batchelor is there are no callers. Has anyone listened to the 11 o'clock hour of Crazy Kuhner on RKO. His 11 o'clock hour has the same 10 days every day. Then there is this guy Russ who loves to hear himself talk and thinks he is really clever. No exaggeration, I have heard him on 3 different shows in one day. In my opinion letting someone on every day is the quickest way to loose your audience. IIRC back in the day at BZ we had a one call per week rule.

Easy enough to do in a large market with a big base of potential callers to draw from, but......

For a small market talk station like 1480-WSAR in Fall River, there have literally been certain people who have called the station multiple times per day for over 30 YEARS.....to the point where you know more about some of these people than you really care to!

Familiarity really does breed contempt!

Agreed! The only current events talk show on the air where you actually know more at the end of it than you did at the beginning.

Batchelor does tend to fall in love with his own voice on occasion, and has a number of irritating verbal ideosyncracies, but his rotating stable of guests and subject matter experts is beyond compare, on either radio or television. If he ever started taking callers, it would destroy the show. Uninformed opinion isn't exactly in short supply.

TSB

I haven't but I wonder how he manages to squeeze 10 days into a day.

Obviously that was a typo. I ment to write callers rather than days. I would guess everyone pretty much understood the point I was making.

I haven't listened to him in years? He had a very bad record on the war which really hurt his credibility (for what that's worth in radio).
He's a gentlemen though and really must put a lot of work into production. I think John sees himself as an anachronism who should have been born about 1900.

The 10 callers are probably his 10 listeners.
