Overnight America with Jon Grayson is back

Overnight America with Jon Grayson is back on the New England airwaves. After CBS pulled back from their placing it on WBZ overnights a couple of years back after listener backlash, Dial Global is now offering it up for syndication.

WCRN-AM 830 in Worcester has picked it up and is now airing it from 1 - 5 a.m. Of course, their website still lists the Midnight Radio Network (which became Red Eye Radio) in early January. Their program listings on their website leave much to be desired so it probably won't be updated anytime soon.

btw one by-product of the situation is that WCCO (at 830, same freq as WCRN) does run
part of WBZ's Jordan Rich show.

I live about 40 miles east of the WCRN Tx, which is in Leicester. Nighttime reception of WCRN here is highly problematic (lots of fading as a result of skywave/groundwave cancellation). I'm being only mildly facetious when I say that, at this location, picking up a usable signal on 830 at night might work better if WCRN were to sign off at 1:00AM, allowing listeners in the Northeast a clear shot at WCCO. WCRN ought to try to improve its ground system (add a ground screen around the tower bases) and maybe even top-load the towers. Top loading, which increases the groundwave signal and reduces high-angle skywave, might even make sense if it necessitated a slight decrease in the nominal output power (to protect WEEI). The result could still be a reduction in fading with no loss in groundwave signal strength.

Happy to be back. Looking forward to hearing from New Englanders again. We've also expanded our reach into Orlando, FL on WDBO and Baltimore on WBAL, so there are lots of new voices on the show and we hope to give you plenty to listen for.
