Overnight network programming

Do any stations not air their networks overnight programming? The reason I ask is the CBS station near me pre-empts all of Up to the Minute for home shopping and the ABC station carries shopping as well, only carrying an hour of World News Now

I do know that WECT/6 (NBC) Wilmington, NC,carries home-shopping programming in place ofreruns of Leno and Conan O'Brien. WXIA/11 (NBC)Atlanta carries Leno but not O'Brien, rerunningStarting Over instead.

For us (NBC), right after Last Call with Carson Daily, we go to 1 hour of infomercials (which by the way, on the NBC monitor Tonight Show All Night is airing,) than at 3:05.00 we switch to the Tonight Show All Night until 3:59:55, and that's when we bail out to start one more infomercial until Early Today. On our other channel (CBS); right after The Late Late Show, we go to 1 infomercial, King of the Hill, than join CBS Up To The Minute (UTTM) in progress. I would like to say, CBS UTTM's music haunts me, I've heard it so many times, it's like finger nails on a chalkboard. That's why when UTTM comes on; I'm usually in TV Operations doing stuff.

In Philadelphia, with all network-owned stations, CBS re-runs the 11 pm news, followed by infomercials. Usually, they take less than a hour of Up To The Minute. ABC re-runs Oprah and the 11pm News and takes less than two yours of World News Now. NBC re-runs Tonight, Late Night and All Access. New York follows much the same schedule.

Here in the hinterlands of east amd northeast Mississippi, where two companies control all the available over-the-air signals (WTVA controls/operates Channels 9, 27-Fox and 45-ABC; WCBI controls/operates 4-CBS with UPN on DT-4.2), we have the following:WTVA-9-NBC carries all of NBC's overnight programming beginning immediately after Cason Daly until 3am when they throw up some infomercials until they join Early Today at 5:00am (the local "Morning Show" starts at 5:30am).WLOV-27-Fox signs off at 1:30am after showing a couple of infomercials. Actually, I wouldn't say what they so much as "signing off" as "quit broadcasting" since "signing off" conjures up images of a test pattern or snow and a power-down of the tower. They're tower is still powered up because they continue to broadcast a "live" image of their (meaning WTVA's) NWS radar-loop.WKDH-45-ABC ditto what is written for WLOV, but subtract an hour. They "quit broadcasting" immediately after a 12:30am re-run of "Entertainment Tonight." It irks me that WKDH does not broadcast "World News Now" as they are obviously still broadcasting some type of signal from their tower.WCBI-4-CBS airs a 10:00pm news rerun, "Entertainmentstudios.com" and "Becker" followed by the JIP 2:00am "UP To The Minute" broadcast which continues until 5:00am with an edition of "CBS Morning News."

they continue to broadcast a "live" image of their (meaning WTVA's) NWS radar-loop.

WKRG-TV in Mobile, AL was legendary for its network pre-emptions during the '70s.As an example, they delayed "All in the Family" during the 1971-72 season from its scheduled 7 pm CT Saturday airing to 9:30 pm CT on Tuesdays. WKRG's "shell game" with the CBS schedule got so bad that a columnist for the Mobile Register wrote an article about it, adding at the end, "You are missing much, Mobilians, you are missing much."The article used a lot of ink, comparing WKRG's clearance pattern with that of WTVY in Dothan, AL, which apparently was much more faithful to the CBS lineup.

And no doubt that "one cartoon" is an educational one to fulfill the federal "E/I" requirements.
