A thread below says CBC Television will soon go 24/7 with movies and repeats of news shows overnight. Does this apply to Radio-Canada as well?
It would probably be logical to simulcast CBC NewsWorld at 5am when they begin their live morning news.
TVA/CFTM runs LCI, their all-news channel, late nights, not unlike CBS and ABC which have overnight newscasts. (NBC used to do this from their Charlotte NC channel, but dropped it some years ago in favor of repeats of Leno and Conan.)
Can anyone remember when MuchMusic was still fairly new and CITY-TV would simulcast Much from around 4-6am? I suppose that counted as Canadian Content for the total day on CITY.
And how about Global? In an effort to have cheap Canandian Content they would run the same three shows late night from about 3:30 to 6am called Night Walk, Night Ride and Night Moves. It was simply a camera either mounted inside a car windshield or held by a cameraperson walking the streets of Toronto at night, with jazz music (performed I assume by Canadian artists) playing. The camera cruised down Queen Street, up Youge Street, along Bloor St., through Chinatown and along the waterfront. I still have it on a videotape someplace. This ran every night of the week. They only changed the order from night to night.
