Overnight ratings for Houston 39's new news?

Just wondering what early reaction is? I saw a demo and it struck me as disjointed and not something I would tune in for regularly. Your thoughts?

Caught the first NewsFix on Saturday. To explain this format, they took a stab at making fun of the old way of delivering news using an old Walter Cronkite news snip, stating that way of delivering news was now considered news being delivered way late. So passe. Oh really? Like I'm gonna get the latest up-to-date news with this format. Nah, I don't think so. It's all about the money. Already a bogus news cast IMO if they have to resort to lying.

This format may work for the 'modern' audience, particularly among the college crowd, but I doubt any better than that. Just more Low-ered Ex-pec-ta-ti-ons. However, I don't consider Fox26 at 9PM that much better. They seem to have gone way down hill of late. Practically in total disarray. Guess I'll have to wait a little longer for a real news fix. Preferably a KHOU news fix.

Yeah, im forced to wait until 10 for my news now. NewsFix looks like it's just something i'll check out once or twice a week instead of every night. And Fox 26 (S)news is just garbage, in my opinion.

I googled but can't find recent local news ratings. One thing's for sure, KIAH won't be touting their news ratings anytime soon, but it would be nice to know where they currently stand.

IMHO,

"NewsFix" is "NewsBroke"...

If 39 wants to be serious about local news, they should think outside the box in a different way - what about a 7pm newscast (like CW stations in St. Louis or Denver). A normal newscast (maybe 30 minutes) at 7pm might pull in a better audience...

Seems like I make it a point to at least catch Greggo's last word at the end of the 'NewsFix', just before catching a real news fix at KHOU, unless Wayne has a special report on KTRK.

Channel 39 tried a 7 pm newscast years ago. The 7 pm newscast would conflict with the CW programming though, so it is not a possibility as long as 39 is a CW station.

"...designed...to eliminate happy talk between anchors by eliminating anchors..."

Then have them stop doing 'happy talk'. Easily solved. Was kinda hard to do anyway being 39 news before NewsFix only had one news anchor. Go figure. My problem with local news now is far too much time is spent on the weather. I want beef. But, I guess that's asking a lot nowadays. Lowered expectations yes indeed.

The weather is the sole reason most people watch the news.

To see how hot it's gonna be? Like for this summer, all they need to say is hot with a 20% of showers. Unless a drastic change is coming or happening at the time, I just don't see the need for a long, drawn out forecast. Now they don't even wait until the normal 20 past the hour time slot. Now we get a 'quick' check of the weather at 5 past the hour, on top of the longer than 'back in the day' traditional weather time slot.

Maybe it's that PC correctness. Can't talk about anything nowadays except the weather so as not to offend anybody.

A .5 eh? Hope they're saving a lot of money on anchor's salaries....

Seems to me this is the same thing as the difference between a computer driven FM and a station with real jocks....only I'll be the cost savings aren't nearly what they are with the radio folks.

A wise broadcaster once told me, "I never saw a station that saved its way to #1."
That was 15 years ago and I don't think he's been proven wrong yet.
