Overnight Talk

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Jim Bohannan (WEOL all-night.) He, though right-leaning, is excellent.

Of course, the best overnight talk ever was the "BLF Bash!"

Apparently a right-wing atheist.

Local Overnight Talk - In NE Ohio?

BTW, Jim Bohannon doesn't do "overnights" anymore, really. What used to be Larry King's old Mutual overnight show (midnight-5 AM) is now cleared live 10 PM-1 AM ET, with repeats after that. Bohannon still works all night, though, as he does WW1's "America in the Morning" news magazine hour, feeding down the satellite at 5 AM ET. (As far as I know, no one in the area carries AITM. WNIR carries his talk show after Tom Erickson.)

Who has actually DONE non-music radio overnights in Northeast Ohio? The only name I remember is Cynthia Smith, who hosted 1260's "Night Flight" show when it was a talk station as "SuperTalk 1260 WBBG". I seem to recall that even WNIR tried a local post-midnight show, though I believe (oddly enough) the hours were roughly midnight-3 AM only on Saturday and Sunday nights, after "The Dating Show". I can't remember who hosted it, but I know former WNIR staffers read this board...

Wow. Those words "Night Flight" really jarred my memory. Does anyone remember "Night Flight 760" on WJR? The host's name was Jay ???? They "flew" from Detroit to a different destination each night, landing just before the morning farm report. The music through the night was based on the destination.

Thanks for the info on Bohannon and the WW1 show.

WHBC-AM carried it as of 6 months ago, but I haven't listened recently.

Yep, still is.

Good to know. 1480 is a static-filled catch up here, as they direct most of their wattage away from greater Akron...at least in daytime hours. They do actually have a preset on my car radio, but I'm not usually up at the hour AITM runs.

It was Jay Roberts that hosted "Night Flight 760 [or 76]". I listened to the beginning of the show for a few years when I was growing up, before I went to bed.

During the winter months, I can pick up AITM by DXing KXEL/1540 out of Waterloo, IA during the 6am hour (5am central)

BTW, WEOL carries "The Wall Street Journal This Morning" Mon-Sat during the 5am hour - which WARF/1350 has also picked up.

The last person I know of to host a post-mid local show is James Hereford. He brokered his own late-night show on WERE/1300 from 12a-2a for well over 15 years. WERE dumped him late last year.

Before that, Rick Gilmour brokered his own Sunday night show on WERE from 11p-2a, in addition to co-hosting "Beer Talk" on Saturday nights. Gilly's ratings, for that time slot, were the highest for any part of the station. WTAM/1100 grabbed him immediantly after WERE dumped him.

WEOL/930 airs Jim Bohannon live from 10p-1a, then the re-feed from 1a-4a. The 4a-5a hour is AP ANR on the bird (which will have to change as of July 15, when AP ANR shuts down...)

I keep forgetting about him. Did he broker those hours, or is he a WERE/Radio One employee, even part-time?

You'll have to forgive me...down here south of the Ohio Turnpike, WERE is but a rumor. I keep forgetting about them! And now that they're a fully brokered station (give or take network fill for unsold hours), I bet most Clevelanders have forgotten them as well.

Have they pretty much nailed down the AP ANR shutdown plan at WEOL? IIRC, they still have the post-Mitch Albom hours, 5-7 PM, to worry about, plus whatever extensive weekend fill was previously filled with AP ANR.
